Ok so other than having another cinema in the area, what makes this one any different to, say, Cineplex?

A historical building is being reused in a good way. Like Cineplex it is owned by locals, and their business plan doesn't seem to be to shaft the customers like some other major cinema chains. It will bring more life and people into the city, it goes well with nearby restaurants and cafes. It's been done in a classy way. I'm already a purple club member and it's a closer trip to Aussie Bhoy's home than the New Farm cinema (about a 5 minute walk).

It's the evolution of cinema...
People like to go get dinner and see a movie as a kind of 'night out', these niche cinemas target the premium end of the market by offering a more intimate setting rather then the large scale Cineplex cinemas.

Newmarket next then Cooparoo

Sort of makes one wonder if some of Regent should have been kept (Cinema 1 at least) but anyway let's not go there, I just think it's fantastic that everything old is new again.

Well, the inclusion of a boutique cinema was a requirement of the Regent Tower...

Newmarket was looking pretty advanced when I saw it recently. Seemed ready to put the cinema signage up on that large curved wall facing the intersection.

Those pictures remind me of what the Piccadilly Cinemas in Perth were before they closed down due to issues with the building they were in (they were also in a great venue with great architecture inside the theaters)

Oh and are those beer taps I see in that photo? Is it like Gold Class where you can have booze with your movie?

It would be like New Farm, where the entire complex is licenced. They have a separate alcohol bar as well as the traditional candy bar. In fact, I had a cold one while waiting for the previous movie to finish, last time I went to New Farm. The taps could even be left over from the Irish Club.

A couple of fun facts - the two upstairs theatres are both named (Tara Room for the former Ballroom, and Harp Room for the smaller one), and it has opened with only 5 screens, with the two upstairs screens being General Admission, and the three ground level screens being Gold Class-equivalent Royal Rooms.

Hopefully that will happen if it is in the plan.

I loved New Farm cinemas. That Black Sabbath documentary in the red room last week was great, the chairs were nice with the cushions. I went there again on Sunday night for Close Encounters, I need to go there more often.

Oh very cool.

I've been lucky to see them 3 times although the first was with Ronnie James Dio. It was a brilliant documentary.
