Woohoo! I'm bored of the shopping options in this area. Coles. Or, if you want to travel a little farther afield, Coles. Not any decent independent grocers left. Even the local IGAs are crap/have gone fancy, no one wants that for everyday groceries sorry.

NIMBYs seem to like accommodation for aged people as much as they like cement works. There was a campaign against homes in Brittania St, Leederville and Cleaver in West Perth. And now Menora.

Was that the alternative for that site, retirement/aged home?

I meant to refer to the 1st item in JL1 link above where aged accommodation in Menora was refused because they wanted balconies, etc.

Seems a common complaint in the inner city. They didn’t seem welcome in the South perth Station precinct, I recall.

Drycleaners site on market in fashionable Highgate

An artist’s impression of a use for Beaufort Street, Highgate.

Baltinas Made is releasing a prime piece of real estate on the Beaufort Street strip in Highgate.

The Perth property developer is selling a 232sqm green title lot at 545 Beaufort Street, expecting $1.5 million.

Since the 1950s, the site has been owned by the local Challis family who have run Highgate Drycleaners for 67 years.

Founder and architect Barry Baltinas said the company had development approval to subdivide the site into four green-title development lots.

“The first phase of the project involves putting 545 Beaufort Street up for sale while we gather registrations of interest in order to finalise plans for developing the remaining lots — 539, 541 and 543 Beaufort Street, 539 being the corner site.”

Mr Baltinas said the site, which has Beaufort street frontage and rear access, would suit a small developer or owner-occupier.

“A four-level mixed-use development including a penthouse, Airbnb-approved apartments and shop or office space is the most likely plan for this block but it’s definitely flexible,” he said.

“One possibility is that it could be a perfect opportunity for a downsizing couple to secure themselves an incredible home in a sought-after location and simultaneously create business interests to fund their retirement and lifestyle.”

He said a buyer could opt to embrace one of Baltinas’ architectural visions for the site, which involved four different designs for the four lots, or develop their own approach.

“The entire lot is a prime piece of Perth real estate and we could have just built a typical apartment block on there but research globally shows that creating smaller buildings on a site like this has many benefits,” he said. “What it offers are more affordable tenancies, more vibrant and healthier communities and a more engaging activated streetscape.”

Highgate Drycleaners would move during the construction phase but return to form part of the final development of the two corner lots.

The final development, as Baltinas envisaged, would include a cafe, offices and a penthouse apartment.

Baltinas Made has a $28 million apartment development Camilla Residences in West Perth. PACT Construction has begun work on the nine-storey development, next to its Halo on Mount building.

I don't know much about other potential plans for that site but hasn't it been known ALDI were going to build there for a while now? It reported in July last year they bought the site for about $8m.

ah nice one, i didn't realise that. tbh as much as i am pro-development of things that create ongoing jobs and bring back the shopping concept of a highstreet, it is a shame there is no apartment component to such a prime site. This one for example is being built not too far from where i live. Was previously a Foodworks, so they're incorporating it into the ground floor of the new building.

Certainly seems to be among the lowest for a non Midland or other comparative shithole suburb, although personally i think this one in Beaconsfield at $275k for a 65sqm 1 bedder in Beaconsfield closer to south Freo/Freo/the ocean appears to be better value 22 Strang Street Beaconsfield WA 6162 https://www.realestate.com.au/proper...ield-121555398

No idea if it's in the industrial-ish part of Beaconsfield though

The ones in Palmyra could potentially sit right next to a future freeway/river crossing tunnel with Stock road - Innaloo and might not be ideal in that regards. Palmyra is a nice suburb but.

65sqm is good for a 1 bed. What do you think of South Freo in general sanj for growth in 5/10 years? New train line (freo line extension to gateways)? Port Coogee? Do something with the power station? Runamuk nice hot dogs?
