Hedreen work 10/16/14

Work on this block is definitely ramped up even though, as far as I can tell, they haven't even figured out which version they're going to do. I guess they can do this preliminary work irrespective of whether they get the alley vacation or not ("alley vacation" is such a weird phrase. "I'm going on an alley vacation this weekend").

Anyway...from today

The only complaints I recall receiving from guests about "undesirable" out-of-towners was one year during Gay Pride week. A Christian travel agency had booked a block of rooms for guests taking an Alaskan Cruise. So had a Gay travel agency...who were going on the same cruise! Guess who complained?

Christian drag queens! Giving some Jan Crouch realness.

Um, yeah, that's how they get those built bodies. Limp wrists.

Must be utility relocations. They're at least four months from a shoring permit.

The building permit seems to be the small version. I haven't seen an application for the big version. If that's the case, the bright side would be the hotel will be easier to build (with a great parking lot to use during construction) and that site can be a developable lot afterward.

Shouldn't demolition take almost that long?

Good point, depending on what sort of hazmat and salvagable stuff is involved. But four months is still a very long time.

I asked Marc Stiles to specific which version of the project got the green light- he said it's the bigger one.

For the clueless among us (read: "me"), could you clarify/amplify? What's "Split @CityofSeattle Design Commish" and who's Marc Stiles? What's the deal on the City Council and the alley vacation?

Marc writes for the PSBJ. In the A/E/C/RE press, he's the only one who seems comfortable with breaking news outside the daily cycle.

Hopefully it'll get past city council. Some of them have been working under the "stupid = smart" philosophy.

He was at the meeting. He knows which version was discussed.
