Interesting.

Why is this listed as under construction and 157 West 57th Street is not?

The same thing is going on in both sites. There's no piling here which is the alleged trigger for moving a thread from proposed to under construction.

I thought that piling was a completed concrete floor with rebar sticking out from it. If you look at the pictures of work currently on-going at 157 W 57th Street, the very same thing is happening there as is happening here.

All different sizes and in lots of different locations. The biggest is 2.4 meters wide. One side has a huge pile wall and this is being built on the site of existing structures with their own foundations. This isn't a desert in the middle east with a clean site to start with. You've got people moaning, limited space, special planning and building regs in place. All this right in the centre of London.

This is the very same work that's occurring daily at 157 W 57th. It makes no sense to classify one as proposed and the other as under construction.

What's with the lack of photos in that thread. I went all the way back to November last year and there wasn't a single photo of ongoing construction work.

I gave up after that.

I accidentally had posted the link to the Torre Verre, which will rise near 157 W 57th.

Here is the proper link, and construction photos are in it.

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=776476

For example, this photo (which I believe is in Post No. 97) is from 10 Oct. 09.

Anyway, I will get back to the subject of the thread, London's magnificent Bihopsgate Tower. I was just curious about the subjectivity of classifying buildings' statuses.

Why don't you complain to people who actually care instead of ruining this thread?

goodbye.

The piles many of them 70-80m deep, were put in before the basement of the previous building was demolished. They are now excavating the site and will cap the pileheads this month. The contruction has already started even though it looks like a demolition and they are at least a year ahead of most projects that have a site that looks like this. Once the pile caps are in, main construction can begin as most groundworks are complete.

No, thats the pile caps or foundation raft. The piles are multiple deep bores drilled into the earth and filled with reinforced concrete. The pile caps will be attached to the top of these. Its the piling that takes the time in these projects, and its already done here.

Thanks for the information.

Anyway, the same things are occurring at the sites in NY and London, but the moderators choose to classify them differently.

Anyway, back to the Helter Skelter.

Piling has not begun at 157 W 57th. However, piling is complete for the Bishopsgate Tower.

That's why the status for each project is different.

Thumbs up

When I first visited London, I wasn't particularly happy with the skyline but when this, The Shard, and couple others are complete London will truly have magnificent skyline!

Pinnacle sets City sights high

13.11.09

Arab Investments expects to win planning permission next month for a viewing gallery at the Pinnacle, its planned City of London skyscraper

The gallery would be developed as a multi-storey, 8,000 sq ft space, enclosed by a cascading glass roof and offering the highest City viewpoint.

Arab also proposes to offer an interactive, museum-quality exhibit detailing the history of the City, together with the Museum of London.

The Pinnacle restaurant, which will be run by Rex Restaurants, the creator of the Wolseley restaurant, will be below the viewing gallery, on levels 53 and 54. It will offer external terraces and the “highest dining experience in the City of London”.

I agree, I wonder what's happening with 122 Leadenhall/Columbus Tower (if that's still dead or alive) and Beetham Tower Blackfriars?

I think there was news the other day about Columbus Tower having received the go ahead sign.
