Welcome to the site, Trippelsewe.

We all hope you are right as we think this would be a great project for Hobart. Good luck to the developer too.

Although Hobart has, in the past, been a risky place for large scale speculative developments there is so much national and international interest in it now that it seems to be more than capable of delivering healthy and sustainable profits for those who do press ahead.

Lets all hope for good news in 2018!

I was at a cafe a few weeks ago and a fellow coffee drinker was reading and ticking/signing off on to a VIBE HOTEL thick booklet/document. Would have been about 50 pages long. I spied the rooms and signage etc as he was flipping through.

Cannot reveal my source unfortunately but I've also become privy to information which suggests this project is moving ahead

Also, related to this project (but completely unrelated to the post above), HCC have a DA for two underground trash compactors in Kemp St, next to the Argyle St car park and behind this proposal.

It appears they are landscaped public seating areas by day, with a bin, but the bin is a chute which goes to the compactor below. The whole thing lifts up when a truck arrives to collect.

HOBART - #APPROVED: Vibe Hotel (36 Argyle Street) - 15st / 57m / hotel / mixed

I drove by today and there was a small excavator working. No chance this will be a car park any more

Looks like archeology might be next based on what's in the pit at the bottom of image:

Sensational to see something actually starting...lets hope they dont find anything too interesting in that pit!!!

Am a little suprised by the info that this might be a VOS job. If so, its likely to be a pretty slow build. I suspect the hotel wont open now until the end of 2019 but in the overall scheme of things its not really an issue.

However, it will be a thing of beauty to possibly see both of Hobart's newest and close to being tallest buildings (this and the Hyatt) going up together later this year...and along with the new K Block at the Hospital, this building in particular will change the Hobart skyline in a substantial way. What follows is the current render from the architects web page which seems to confirm that this project is proceeding as suggested by Chuq and others.
