Canadian Military

Do you think that Canada should be peacekeepers or have a strong army like in WW2?

I think the strong army is the better option in case we are ever involved in any war, but it'd be good to keep a couple thousand peacekeepers.

i think we should get 5000-10000 more soldiers, and buff up our navy, but i dont agree on having a ridiculous military budget. just spend money on what we need.

Invest a little bit more. Maybe some new/more ports and a bit bigger navy/airforce. Nothing like America though... God no.

I think Canada should heavily invest in it's military for the following reasons..

a) we can't defend our country

b) we can't respond to emergency situations in the far north

c) a strong military can act as a peacekeeping force, as relief effort for international disasters

I also believe that Canadian values could be fostered through enlistment into the army during peacetime. There are plenty of uselful things an army can do at home, during which a meaningful and inspirational impression could be given to Canadian youth. A strong military can serve as a focus of patriotism and pride, something Canada can always use.

I think we need a much stronger millitary. However, I don't think we need to spend what the U.S spends in terms of % of GDP.

No one does, and no one needs to. Comparing our military to the US military is entirely pointless... Australia and Britain are better 'role models'.

Peackeepers are the military, there is no seperate MOC/job in the military which is "peacekeeper". Sometimes the military gets deployed in peackeeping roles, that's all.

Canada doesn't need to expand their military, they are members of NATO, and are allies with the US, Canadian foreign policy doesn't revolve around foreign invasion, and massive over seas campaigns, so I would stay with what you have, don't increase spending, look at us, we increased the military spending and we are screwed over for it.

Yeah, the US will defend the NWP in Canadian interests

I think we should focus on modernising the military, at least has a few helicopters that can flie, and subs that can go under water!!

We also need to put much more effort into asserting our sovereignty in the north.

What exactly do we need a strong military for? Absolutely nothing.

Canada doesn't need a strong military, but it should be functional enough to enforce the sovereignty over our lands, especially in the Arctic, and it is not doing that right now.

To defend yourselves when America chooses to take over parts of your country for its' untouched wilderness. Within the next 100-200 yr a lot of the cold, tundra of Canada will have been changed due to global warming. which will allow it to be populated in larger numbers than we have seen up to this point.

I think there could be another major world war in 10 - 20 years, and then we'll be happy we invested to protect ourselves instead of cowering behind America...
Our Navy is the biggest embarassment...
Seakings and non-nuclear subs...
Well at least we're replacing our seakings with sikorsky s-92s, not sure if we need subs though (great to have some, but it isnt needed at the moment)

Check the american revolution and then the 1812 war. Yes I realize this was ages ago, and there were many british troops here but still, its a event we can allways use as a joke against our american friends.

In years that have long since passed, Canada had a very good sized and effective military. This is an objective that we should shoot for again.

How would you shoot for it? It will cost billions. Legalize Marijuana and your problem is saved. You can even fly your fighter jets using hemp fuel!

^ Anything worth doing isn't always going to be easy and when things aren't easy they generally tend to be expensive.

Money can be raised and spent stratigically over time.
