Arquitectura Histórica-Neo en Cuba

Hi,

I am wondering if there are any new or recently constructed buildings which are built in a historic architecture style.

I currently have a thread in the architecture forum which features newly constructed buildings that are built in historic form.

Please see thread here:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1022349

I wanna like to have a few examples from Cuba added so please feel to post examples in the above thread.

Thanks in advance!

Good idea. If anybody in this forum has anything about any Cuban building that has been built from scratch in a classical/historicist/traditionalist architectural style please feel welcome to support this thread.

I fear, however, that there will be very limited number of projects, mostly due to the fact that even standing traditional architecture in every city of Cuba is collapsing. The country is in such a state of disrepair and economical stagnation that people can't afford to undertake the detailed, well-planned works that were once possible. Also, the many private classicist architectural agencies and companies that once existed were then nationalized, like everything else. I don't think Cuba is in a position to be able to even repair old buildings or reconstruct torn down/ mutilated/ altered ones, much less begin to build in a neo-historical architectural style that for such a long time the castro regime's policy has tried to wipe out, in order to undermine the country's history.

Yet, I have seen the example of the Orthodox Cathedral of Havana, and that's about the only neo-historical building I have seen built up from scratch in a long time. One might be able, however, to see some rough clacissism in some private homes in several cities, of people who appreciate this style and are able to fund them (very few can).

This is Havana's newly constructed Orthodox Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan.

If I'm not mistaken it is the first major religious building to be built in Havana or in Cuba for that matter in a veeeeeeery long time. The castro regime has limited and even banned new church construction for almost half a century, although under current political climate and social forces it is changing. The regime has begun to give back at least three Catholic schools in Matanzas province that were confiscated after the revolution, although it confiscated literally hundreds if not thousands of church properties throughout Cuba, not only Catholic but of other denominations.
