Wyndham Cove, Werribee

Last week Wyndham Cove at Werribee South was approved and is set to start later in the year.

The Wyndham Cove Marina will include:

-A community beach, rehabilitated foreshore and new passive recreational facilities with increased public access
-A residential living experience with 164 houses/terraces and 60 apartments that combine the highest standards in design with the latest environmental sustainability principles and initiatives
- The creation of approximately 16 hectares of public open space, wetlands, and coastal reserve – this will be both a significant environmental and recreational resource as well as a stormwater treatment facility for both the development and the adjacent agricultural area
-A breakwater 900m long with purpose-built fishing platforms
-The 'Circular Quay' will include a wide variety of commercial and retail uses including restaurants, shops, bars, a Marina Yacht Club and associated boating facilities
-The Werribee South Coast Guard also intends to relocate to the marina.
-25 minutes drive from both Melbourne and Geelong CBD's (off-peak), and Great Ocean Road and Bellarine Peninsula within an hours drive
-Local nearby attractions include Werribee Park and Mansion, Mansion Hotel, State Rose Garden, National Equestrian Centre, Victoria's Open Range African Zoo, Sanctuary Lakes Golf Course, and the Shadowfax Wineries of Werribee.
-Due for completion in 2008.

*It's also worth noting the Wyndham City Council, City of Greater Geelong, and Hobsons Bay City Council are pushing for a ferry route along the Western Port Phillip coastline, linking Geelong, Werribee South, Altona, Williamstown, Port Melbourne and then into Docklands.

There is a lot of information about this porposal in the Greater Melbourne thread:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=233930

It has not been approved. The required amendment to the planning scheme and the Environmental Effects Statement are on public exhibition until 1 September 2004.

Following the public exhibition period, the Minister for Planning will convene an Independent Panel to consider all submissions and hear individual presentations.

The amendment must then be passed via an Act of Parliament as it involves moving the Urban Growth Boundary.

The developers will are working very fast to get it passed through Parliament before the election next year because after the election there is no way the greens will let this project through the Legislative Council.
