U.S. gaming firm Caesars Entertainment Corp (CZR.O) has to put in at least $1.5 billion as minimum investment if it proceeds to invest in the Philippines, an up-and-coming gaming destination that has lured some of the world's biggest casino operators.

Last month, Philippine President Benigno Aquino met with top Caesars officials, with the casino operator following up the San Francisco meeting with a written expression of interest to invest in the country, Cristino Naguiat, chairman of the state gaming firm Pagcor, told reporters on Wednesday.

‘Fly-in’ Manila casino plan by Caesars U.S.-based casino operator Caesars Entertainment Corp wants to build what one of its executives calls “the world’s first fly-in integrated resort” next to Manila International Airport (pictured) in the Philippines.

Steven Tight, president, international development for Caesars, said the firm is willing to spend US$1 billion on the project.

He told GGRAsia: “What I think is most exciting about the opportunity is to create what I suppose would be the world’s first ‘fly in’ integrated [gaming] resort, where you could fly your plane right onto the property and have access directly to the resort, without having to deal with the traffic and other complications of Manila itself.”

I can't picture the suggested location at the airport because the airport with its surroundings are already congested unless they build their casino in reclamation.....any map pointing out the proposed location?. Uniwide Coastal Mall is now a bus terminal but it will be great if they demolish the dilapidated mall and build their casino there. the vacant lot between COD manila and Uniwide is also a great area for their casino

Higher investment floor for new gaming investors eyed
by Ben O. de Vera | Philippine Daily Inquirer | Thursday | October 23rd, 2014 | 4:32 am

The City of Dreams at its earlier stage of construction. State-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. plans to come out before yearend with a rule putting in place a higher investment requirement for new investors at its sprawling Entertainment City gaming complex along Manila Bay.

MANILA, Philippines–Pagcor chair and chief executive Cristino L. Naguiat Jr. told reporters on Wednesday that present terms of reference are being amended so that the minimum capital investment of new entrants would exceed the only $1-billion requirement under existing rules.

--- SNIPPED ---

Naguiat also confirmed that US gaming giant Caesars Palace is interested to invest in Entertainment City. “During our recent meeting in the US, Caesars Palace said they have ‘overlooked the Philippines,’” Naguiat said, describing the international gaming group’s current interest in the country.

overlooked and bypassed I would say. If I remember clearly it was Harrah's and Planet Hollywood who expressed interest and collaborated with Henry Sy circa 2008 or 2009-10 but negotiations fell. Melco Crown entered the picture thus the birth of City of Dreams Manila. Now international casino companies are feeling bullish on Philippine casinos such as Caesar's

Gaining a Foothold
by Inside Asian Gaming | Thursday | 10 April 2014 | 06:31

Caesars Entertainment missed out on casino licenses in both Macau and Singapore, and it has been seeking a way to enter Asia ever since. In South Korea, it finally appears to be close.

In late 2001, Macau opened the tendering for three new casino licenses to end Stanley Ho’s 40-year monopoly. Caesars Entertainment—then known as Harrah’s—was the world’s largest casino operator at the time and notably absent from the list of 21 bidders.

Caesars then missed out on a chance to enter Singapore when in 2006 it pulled out of the race for one of two licenses up for grabs following the city-state’s decision to legalize and bring casinos there. Announcing its withdrawal from the bidding, Caesars said the investment required in the Lion City would be too costly.

Don't Hail Caesars Yet For Its Asia Breakthrough In Korea
by FORBES ASIA | Friday | 7/11/2014 @ 1:12AM

From its Palace in Las Vegas, Caesars has long tried to extend its empire to Asia and may finally get a chance in South Korea. (Photo credit: szeke)

Caesars Entertainment CZR - 6.92% missed out on the Asia boom and has paid a heavy price. The company, whose flagship Caesars Palace became synonymous with Las Vegas decadent luxury, has been surpassed by Strip rivals that got Macau licenses and is even seeing its home turf invaded by Malaysia’s Genting Group, funded by its Singapore cash cow, Resorts World Sentosa.

--- SNIPPED ---

With a population of 50 million and a per capita GDP in the world’s top 15, South Korea tempts the biggest names in gaming. Unfortunately, those 50 million Koreas and their trillion dollar economy are not permitted to enter 16 of the country’s 17 casinos. The exception is Kangwon Land, located in a derelict mining region a harrowing three and a half hour drive from Seoul. Even there, steps to control problem gambling include restrictions on the number and duration of visits. Kangwon Land recorded gross gaming revenue of $1.25 billion last year, more than the 16 foreigner only casinos combined. Koreans are the biggest foreign revenue source for Philippine casinos, currently the closest major gaming destination, with a flight time from Seoul about as long as the trip to Kangwon Land.
