Hey - I noticed watching that through, at the end as the southbound tram pulls out of Dawsons St to St Stephens Green there appears to be a track coming in from the left? I assume that's just a small siding for trams to wait in if they terminated at St Stephens Green?

I think the plan is to use it to store trams that have technical problems. They can be kept there until the track is quieter and they can be towed back to the depot.

Precisely - itís a turn back siding for short workings from the south to St Stephenís Green.

Itíll also be used if there are protest marches etc in the city centre.

Why would people protest against Luas?

Against my better judgement, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume that you simply can't understand simple English in context.

Nobody suggested anyone would stage protests against the Luas.

When there are protest marches for whatever reason, or during the St Patrick’s Day Parade then the trams will not be able to operate through the city centre and trams from Sandyford will have to use the turnback siding at St Stephen’s Green while those from Broombridge use the crossover at Dominick St to return northbound.

I thought there was meant to be an Upper Dominick Street Station. Did this get dropped from the plans?

Don't remember one at all, but the Lower Dominick and Broadstone stops would make one there rather pointless anyway.

Given the tosh spoken by the Dublin Chamber spokesman I think I'll reserve my excitement for the opening of DU...or maybe even MN.
