Hamedan railway operating

Hamedan railway has opened for commercial service today. The first train to Mashad left Hamedan station today, 11th of July at 16.15.

In the first period, there will be a long distance train twice a week between Hamedan and Mashad. Tehran service will start later, when higher speeds on the new line between Hamedan and Robat Karim will allow competitive travel times.

It seems that the current train leaves Hamedan in the afternoon and joins Tehran in the night (not quite fast for 270 kms), to join Mashad the next morning.

The service is done by Raja. Tickets should be available on the booking system within a few days.

It seems they are learning to take their time with new rails. It is really dangerous to push the speeds beyond 30km/hr on new rails because it will either damage the railway or cause a nasty accident. ESP with the hot temperatures expanding the rails to their maximum limits. Good one.

Hamedan train is now bookable.

Here are the timetables:

So it stops in Tehran, but tickets are not sold on this relation. Price is 99000 Toman for Hamedan-Mashad in 4-bed compartment and 65000 T in 6-bed.

Currently the travel time from Hamedan to Tehran is 4 hours (less then the bus). Of course it will decrease in the future. 3 hours should be possible.

It runs every 4 days. Very difficult to memorize, because it is every week at a different day. So one must check and try on the online booking system.

First bookable departure from Hamedan is Monday 24/07/2017.
