Ministry firm on fee stance

PETALING JAYA: The Works Ministry and the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) are standing by their earlier statement that Penang significantly overpaid design fees for three roads.
In a statement yesterday, minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Penang’s earlier denial of overpayment could not stand when all the components were scrutinised in accordance with BEM’s scale of fees.
He was responding to Penang Local Government Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow’s claims just before Hari Raya, where the latter argued that the RM177.5mil in fees was not excessive as it included 10 additional components.

Hah ... Penang LRT pricier than LRT3? How much pricier are MRT1 and MRT2 compared to LRT3? Even if discounted for MRT1/MRT2 slightly higher capacity than LRT3? Even even discounted for higher proportion of underground works in MRT1/MRT2?

Rising cost of LRT queried MCA: Penang’s project pricier per km than Klang Valley LRT3

GEORGE TOWN: The state government must explain why the Komtar-Bayan Lepas light rail transit (LRT) project was estimated to cost RM7bil last year but has now risen to RM8.4bil.

Penang MCA Youth chief Datuk Michael Lee said the new estimate meant the cost per kilometre of the LRT would be higher than the LRT3 project in the Klang Valley.

He said the 30km LRT line would cost RM280mil per km compared with RM243mil per km in the LRT3.

“The LRT3 is 37km with 2km underground and one underground station. The cost is RM9bil.

Mmm ... Is he sure LRT3 will still have total cost of RM9bil after completion of all the works contracts tender, and payment for all the land acquisitions?

Oh, how many billions per km are MRT1 and MRT2?

If u compare side by side, yes Penang lrt is more expensive but i just regard this as mere hearsay.

And i think lrt3 costing excludes land expropriation so yeah.... And pdp fee too. 7% out of total cost right?

Dont hear from the politicians. Hear from the experts.
