They do look fake because they don't adhere to the right proportions! I have no idea why would anyone spend that much money on carvings and decorations if they're going to ruin the building with the wrong proportions... either the architects are really stupid or the patrons are really tasteless (probably both). In any case the end result is as kitschy as it can be.

The proportions are off. The individual elements are excellent, but it's discordant as a whole.

I don't think they look too kitsch, there are certainly kitscher reconsructions in Dresden. And to those who think they are built in the wrong place and continent, well China has a lot of European buildings from 19th century and early 20th century so they aren't quite out of place.
