Argyle Square, Carlton, Victoria

Argyle Square is located off Lygon Street in Carlton. Part of the site is a tree-lined park and part is the site of the former Carlton Bowling Club. In 1995, the Carlton Bowling Club closed and the land became vacant. The City of Melbourne then made plans for its redevelopment, which commenced in 2005. On 29 January 2006, Lord Mayor John So opened the refurbished Argyle Square.

Argyle Square is supposed to have an "Italian" theme, and features a bronze solar clock surrounded by traditional handcrafted paving made from Porphyry stone from the trento region in Italy. It also has a number of steel columns that are illuminated at night.

I think they did a nice job here. The paving looks great but the new space as a whole is not much to admire during the day. But at night it looks quite spectacular with illuminated blue columns.

Here are some recent pics of mine: Enjoy!

And here's a picture of Argyle Square before the re-development (from TravelVictoria.com.au):

We looked at mountains until dawn, and then when dawn came, it was too pretty for me - there was pink and blue and gold, in the sky, and on icy places, brilliant pink and gold flashes, and the snow was colored too, and I said," Oh," and sighed; and each moment was more beautiful than the one before; and I said, " I love you, Momma." Then I fell asleep in her arms.
That was happiness then.
