That word Sudhakaran used cannot be tolerated at any level .
But crying for an impossible project is foolishness.
If Wayanad people are serious about rail connection they can ask for a more realistic link through Kabani Basin, it can be connected to Mysore to Mananthavadi and later can be extended to Kalpetta. (If that is real wayanad ) - This line can be connected to Thalassery or Koyilandi or both in a later stage

I too had thought there is a "gap" in the Kabini basin however I am told the non-forest area we see is the reservoir of Beechanahalli dam. Obviously a rail line cannot be built through a reservoir. Also, in the discussion with KA, when asked if the rail line can be built avoiding National Parks, Dr Sreedharan's response was "No".

Now on the other hand, if the national park can be avoided by routing through Kabini basin, it can be easily achieved by shifting existing alignment of Nilambur - Nanjangud line by may be 5 or 10 km. After Sulthan Bathery, the line is already going through HD Kote taluk. (Kabini basin is in that taluk as well).

This is a major difference between the rail alignment and existing road. The road is entering Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajnagar district after Bathery where as the rail is straight entering HD Kote taluk in Mysore district.

Convention to be held at Sulthan Bathery tomorrow, in protest of derail attempts on Nanjangud - Nilambur railway. Former minister PC Thomas will participate.

Another convention is to be held at Ernakulam in the first week of October in which central minister Alphons Kannanthanam will participate.

Glad to see protests spreading beyond Wayanad and Nilambur. Along with the convention in Ernakulam, I feel there has to be similar events at Thiruvananthapuram and other major cities in South and Central Kerala.

PC Thomas says Nilambur-Nanjangud rail line is one of the most profitable rail projects in the country, with IRR of 20%. Approvals will not be a constraint for such a profitable project.

No Forest between Nilambur and Meppadi

This news article is about the proposed Meppadi - Nilambur road, to be built as part of the Hill Highway.

This report confirms that there is NO forest land required to connect Meppadi with Nilambur. I do recall a second survey done by NATPAC in the last decade, in order to explore the possibility of avoiding forest land in this section of the highway. I had not seen any reports later on but apparently they had submitted a revised alignment, avoiding forests.

This now confirms partially the claims of action committee that there is no forest land required in Kerala for the Nilambur - Nanjangud railway line. What remains to be confirmed is the alignment beyond Sulthan Bathery. It is possible that the route avoids Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary by passing through non-forest land between Chethalayam and Pulpally.
