It all comes to budget size...Which is basically how much revenue a municipal body collects in terms of tax and other misc revenues.. for smaller municipalities, they have revenue collection from area of 20 to 30sqkms...But if you see corporations, their area is 75 to 100sqkm..So they manage to collect significantly higher tax than when they were municipalities....In case of my town, all showrooms, major shopping complexes, hospitals, factories lies outside the municipal boundary limit..These depend on the town population for their revenue but pay no tax to the municipality.

Some Municipal Corporations have larger size - 500-2000 sq.km. Example, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Vishakapattanam, etc.

Yes it is true,.. But we don't have a corporation or UA which can be comparable to delhi, mumbai, banglore, chennai etc...

Good to see all those faces along with the tail end figures. That some how make them accountable for not doing their job properly. Though they are all thick skinned people.

They knows that nobody will ask them about the fund utilisation. They are in a position where they can choose their own way of fund utilisation.

What difference does it makes if Corporations' Moothrapura" is as filthy as Muncipalitys' "Moothrappura"' ? All these governing bodies are for the better management & welfare of the people & not for Meniparachil .

I agree that corporations do get a lot of fund but are they properly managed or at least well off than Muncipality in Kerala .

I am willing to wait for a smart city any number of years. Or a bullet train or a hyper loop. I shall even forget the fund allocation. I am not bothered whether my place is an ordinary Panchayat, a Mucicipal council or a Municipal corporation. I am not eager to see my place grow in to a megacity. I care two hoots about any other hoopla that is written in the pages of urbanization. But I can't wait for one thing.

This is a simple thing any Municipal ward can do without any fund allocation. It needs no technology transfer. I am talking about a few garbage bins in our cities and villages.

Yesterday I went to 'Payyambalam' beach of Kannur after a long time. I was saddened. The entrie beach is a litter ground. Ice cream packets, plastic bags, beer bottles, discarded chappals, mineral water bottles and piles of paper scattered all over the beach. I tried to locate a Garbage bin to deposit the wrapper of a chocolate bought by me for my grand daughter. I could not find any. Temporarily I kept it in my pocket.

I do not know what prevents our civic authorities from placing garbage bins at regular intervals and empty it daily. It does not cost a sky. A few lakhs in small municipalities and a few crores in Big cities are sufficient for it. You need not wait for any fund allocation. It does not need any technology even. Auction the clearance of these bins to somebody for a small price. Many immigrant labour force will come forward to take this contract. Unlike our own Municipal employees, they will do it efficiently. If they do not, their contract can be cancelled and given to somebody else. You cannot suspend the Municipal employee if he does not do his duty.

The second thing I would like to see in my city is sufficient public toilets, well maintained, to relieve ourselves. Today people are forced to walk all the way to a Railway station or a Bus station. I am not talking about moneyed class who visit a mall or a multiplex for their daily needs, but about common citizens. These facilities can be properly maintained again by the help of migrants. They would be only happy to under take it, if they are allowed to collect Rs.2/- per user. I have seen many well maintained public toilets in many parts of India run successfully by the NGO. 'Sulabh Shouchalay'. Why don't our civic bodies entrust them this job, which they are doing freely. Only things our civic bodies need to provide them are the space and water connection to them?

We can talk about other fancy things later. Unfortunately nobody is interested here. Everybody is after a twenty floor residential tower, which they consider a great achievement of their city.

Alathur is obviously the front-runner for Municipal Status, since it is a Taluk HQ and also HQ of a Loksabha Consistuency.

Other Palakkad Towns eligible for Municipality are Pudussery (including Kanjikode Indl Area), Pudunagaram, Koduvayur (Pudunagaram and Koduvayur can also merge to form a single municipality)), and Malampuzha (Malampuzha can also merge with proposed Palakkad Municipal Corporation).

But to the best of my knowledge in recent years Vadakkencherry is d fast growing urban area other dan exciting municipalities in d whole district. The town is growing day by day..nd d chances r der to grow further bigger once d NH 544 6 line roads towards thrissur get completed.
Vadakkencherry is far better town dan Alathur,Nemmara, pudunagaram, koduvayur, chittur, kozhinjampara even canít compare with dese in any sectors and of course completely agreed with u wen comes to Pudussery its been high time got ignored..many of high level companies, institutions, hospitals nd moreover other decent commercial things are also currently present in d area like one shopping mall under construction ,5 star hotel,a dozen of Hospitals nd institution chain of Ahalia, 2 parks by kinfra already working nd one is on d way nd many private companies ..etc should consider it as industrial town nd upgrade as municipality soon

Formation of Palakkad Municipal corporation is over due since quite long time. It is one of the oldest municipalities of Kerala -150 years old.

Currently it has 52 council wards but only 28 sq.km area. They can join the adjacent panchayaths like puduppariayaram, pirayiri, akathethara, mathur and pudussery. There are many developmental activities towards kanjikkode area. There are enough space and a lot of scope for real estate and commercial developments as works of major projects like IIT, Medical college, BEML, Kannambra industrial park, etc are already in progress.

Hope the current govt. before its completion of tenure will take up this and form Palakkad Municipal corporation.

Pudussery can be a separate municipality.

Mathur is in Alathur taluk and rural area.

Proposed Palakkad Municipal Corporation shall contain: Palakkad Municipality, panchayats of Pirayiri, Kannadi, Kodumba, Marutha Road, Puduppariyaram, Akathethara, and Malampuzha,

The rural/hilly/forest areas in Puduppariyaram and Malampuzha can be seperated and new panchayats can be created theere.

The longstanding demand for MUVATTUPUZHA DISTRICT

Form new districts and taluks. In the shadows of Kochi, many parts of Ernakulam district are facing stagnancy in development. Muvattupuzha district is a genuine demand unlike some of the districts which are demanded in Malabar in the name of religion etc. This region (Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam talukas) is getting shadowed in the hype created by the Kochi and Thodupuzha.

BTW! In 1972 Malanad district was formed - It is called Idukki. This district is working for the sole benefit of influential Thodupuzha-Meenachil region. The funds and development happening in Thodupuzha Taluka stands witness for this.
