Technically it is correct as we are discussing about cities ,Not districts. But as Sanju said it is better we keep on district wise to avoid hundreds of nonsense threads. But the thread looks like a joke when u see the polls.

, And Mr. mamupurakalam. Why don't you merge with the Kannur thread, If you have a problem with the thread name, Aslesh, can you rename it as Kannur- Thalassery thread (both are growing fast and easily recognisable as a twin city in the near future)

Then we may need to change it like Kannur-Thalassery-Payyannur-Iritty-Mahe since we have already posted projects from these places. Any way how can I rename the thread? It was started by Sanju and only mods can edit the title.

Btw some people from Thalassery don't like Kannur. They consider Thalassery as bigger town than Kannur.(That is true technically.) I remember in my school days during lunch breaks we used to have heated debates over Kannur vs Thalassery, Mammootty vs Mohanlal and CPM vs Congress.

What is the exact distance between Kannur and Thallassery? If it is less than 30 Kms, it may become one single city in future.

Towns like Elecronics city, Whitefield, Bannarghatta, Banashankari are 25 Kms to 30 Kms from Bangalore city centre (Majestic - MG Road) but still known as Bangalore city. Thalassery should be part of Kannur city in future. Aluva and Thripunithura are independent towns but considered as part of the Greater Cochin city.

Distance between Kannur and Thalassery is mere 21 kms. Only three panchayats - Dharmadam, Muzhappilangad and Edakkad between them.

That means very close. Then Kannur can become a big city in future probably overtaking some of the biggies ahead of them.

Probably Kottayam will also be benefitted if they include Changanasseri which is just 18 Kms from Kottaym city. Kollam may also benefit if the big town Karunagapplay which is 25 Kms away is integrated in future. There are only two panchayaths in between Kollam and Karunagapally. I am not sure how many panchayths are there in between Kottayam city and Changanasseri town.

Honey I know All. But Just wanted to know your opinion. And I just think Thalassery 's case is unique. it is an important city just as big as district HQ. (unlike other all small towns mentioned by u. and the second cities of other districts)

I see no harm in keeping this thread alive , as long as both Kannur and thalassery towns merge to a single entity..

its better as a photo gallery kind of thing

But the number of posts are gonna be limited i guess....

Heritage tourism project for Thalassery gets nod

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 2 (PTI): The coastal town of Thalassery in north Kerala has been brought under a heritage tourism project by the state Government with an outlay of Rs 198 crore. The project was approved by the state cabinet today, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters. Known as the town of three Cs--cricket, cakes and circus-- Thalassery in Kannur distict was one of the early settlements of the British in India, where they built a fort in the 17th century. Earlier known as Tellicherry, the town still has several imprints left by the colonial rule to attract tourists. The town is also associated with battles waged by native ruler Pazhassiraja against the British. Cradle of Indian circus, the town and the surrounding areas had produced a large number of circus artistes and also is home of the legendary martial art trainer Keeleri Kunhikkannan, hailed as father of modern circus in India. German Missionary and lexicographer Herman Gundert lived many years in a bungalow at Illikunnu near Thalassery, from where he compiled the first and still authentic Malayalam Lexicon. According to records, the first mdoern bakery in Kerala was set up in Thalassery by native butlers who learnt the art of European confectionary from the British officials they served. The rural areas around the town are famed for folk arts like Theyaam and Thira, performed in local shrines.
