മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്ര ലോകം (The World of Malayalam Cinema)

This thread is for Malayalam film news, reviews and discussions.

The focus of this thread would be more of enjoying the cinema as an art form rather than merely an entertainment avenue.

More later...

I have been thinking of starting a thread for Malayalam Cinema especially the off beat/thought provoking ones.

Anyway will begin with a commercial one.

Any review about Traffic? Last Sunday we had thought of going for film, the choices were ‘No One Killed Jessica’ and ‘Traffic’. The ticket rate for Traffic was Rs.280/- or so in the regular class, Fame Cinemas, Forum Value Mall, Whitefield, Bangalore. NOKJ was available in Gold Class for Rs.420/- per ticket, went for it. We were not sure how ‘Traffic’ would be.

Seeing the banners, the film seems interesting, perhaps will try this weekend if it is still running at Fame, Whitefield.

'Urumi' is definite in the 'must see' list. Hope it has shows in Gold Class.

  • Popular playback singer "Shreya Ghoshal" was in Trivandrum for the recording of the songs in the new malayalam film "Rathi Nirvedham" directed by T.K Rajeev Kumar.
  • Normally, all the Malayalam songs sung by her were recorded at Mumbai.
  • This is the first time she is in Kerala for the recording of a Malayalam song.
  • The recording was at S.S Studios,Thycaud,Trivandrum.
  • Shreya Ghoshal was born in West Bengal and brought up in Rajasthan.

I also saw the film traffic. Generally, the picure is good, Good story, good technology. Editing should have to be improved. This film focuses the tension suffered by the drivers who are going in pilot vehicles. It also reveals the present traffic situations in our roads and darkness of life. In Kairali, thrissur, people accepted it with claps.

The other good film is Best Actor. This also revealed the difficulties, suffered
by the new comer into the film industry. I think mammootty performed well except in one scene, in which he tries to follow actions of Rajni. There is a good story in that film.. In Ramdas in thrissur, people accepted this also with claps

Really I give 5 thumbs up for Traffic. Saw it yesterday. Really, a class movie. Its something new, that Malayalam movie never seen before. No formulas, no star egos, no fights, no cat-mouse games. Its all about human emotions, value of time and distance. Once again its proved, a good script can make people back to theatres.

Also I must say, the movie proved another point- the necessity of an expressway between Kochi and Palakkad.

150 kms in 2 hrs, still a dream for Kerala

Need not a be a dream, can achieve it depending on the time.

I used to cover TVM-EKM stretch in about 3.5 hours (Starting at 5 AM) in my old Indica diesel. I think roughly it translates to about 125-130 kms in 2 hours.

Had got good review about Traffic, so thought of seeing it. Checked in Times of India, Bangalore last sunday and it showed that the film is running at Fame, Forum Value Mall. Only when reached there, realised that the film had changed.
