Hi All,

I am starting a new thread for Pathanamthitta district.

First of all I thank Sakrisha, who started a common thread in SSC for Pathanmathitta,Alappuzha and Idukki districts. Now moderators can make that thread only for Alappuzha and Idukki.

I request all the forumers to visit this thread and post your comments.

Pathanamthitta - Achievements

Pathanamthitta is the first polio-free district in India

Pathanamthitta tops in literacy (96.93 per cent) among all the districts of Kerala (It could be the top district in the whole country as well.)

Pathanamthitta had the lowest decadal (2001-2011) growth rate of population. (It had a negative decadal population growth)

Source

Pathanamthitta stands 5th in the per capita income among the districts of Kerala and 4th in case of growth in per capita income.

Pathanamthitta - Weaknesses

The whole district is industrially backward. There are no opportunities for the highly educated citizens to work in their own district.

The tourist potential of the district is not explored.

There are no steps from the government to boost the pilgrimage tourism which exists in the district. The facilities for pilgrims are poor.

The district is producing variety of agricultural products, but there are no facilities to process those agricultural products to yield more revenue.

There are no initiatives from the government for the IT development of the district.

Even though most of the major roads in the district are in good shape compared to other districts, it lacks roads with national standard.

There are only a few long distance and interstate KSRTC buses from Pathanamthitta, even though there are so many interstate private buses. Most of the major southern bus operators have services to Pathanamthitta.

Scope for Medical Tourism

Pathanamthitta district is blessed with excellent medical facilities spread across the district. There are proposals to start super specialty hospitals for the millions of pilgrims visiting the district during the Sabarimala season. After the season, the facilities can be used for other patients also. Once the Aranmula airport becomes operational, there is a scope for medical tourism in this district.

Some of the specialty hospitals around Aranmula are:
1) Pushpagiri Medical College, Thiruvalla
2) Muthoot Medical Centre, Kozhencherry ( www.muthoothospitals.com)
3) MGM Muthoot Medical Centre, Pathanamthitta (www.muthoothospital.com)
4) Century Hospital, Chengannur (www.centuryhospital.org)
5) Lifeline Super Specialty Hospital, Adoor (www.lifelinehospitalkerala.com)
6) St. Gregorios Cardio Vascular Centre, Parumala (sghospital.org)
7) Mannam Ayurveda Medical College, Pandalam
8) Chitra Multi Specialty Hospital, Pandalam
9) Sree Ayyappa Medical College and Research Foundation, Vadasserikkara (Under construction)
10) Central university Institute of Medical Science, Adoor (Under construction)
11) Mount Zion Medical College, Adoor (Under construction)

Good Initiative.
Full support to the new thread.

BTW, Kiranchetta, I feel no need to remove 'the name Pathanamthitta from Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Alappuzha project thread' even though a new thread for Pathanamthitta is here.

It is because I feel that, eventhough I opposed Aranmula airport, still I would like Pathanamthitta forumers to be reminded about my contribution to Pathanamthitta in SSC. otherwise, they may tend to think that I am a Pathanamthitta hater.

This is absolutely great and it reflects the fact the people of this district are highly educated and health concerned and also rich by earning good amount of money be it abroad or in India.

For Kollamaites Pathanathitta is their sister district as it was carved out of Kollam district 3 decades before.

The development of Pathanamthitta is very important for Central Travencore and also for the neighbouring districts including Kollam. My full support for this thread and the district.

Hi Godman,

Thank you for pointing this out. I missed to include the same. I have edited that post. I would have missed some other important facts also. I will try to add as much information as possible about Pathanamthitta.
