I too heard like this. There are rumors about a mini mall from Lulu to be constructed in Thodupuzha. Don't know much about this. Will be encouraging to see if locals from Thodupuzha and Pala,Erattupetta etc are investing in businesses in Thodupuzha so as to create own business culture in your town instead of remaining as agricultural region for long.

Its under investigation from Govt. It seems there was a canal on the land and they covered it.

Its not Lulu. I heard its Oberon group who is constructing it. There is also a rumour that Pulimoottil group is doing it. So only rumours and no confirmed news yet.

There is a world class stadium nearing completion in Thodupuzha which is going unnoticed by the media in Kerala. Look at the Stadium! T C Mathew of KCA needs to be credited for his work to bring stadium to his native. He's from Arikkuzha? I think.

It seems another similar sized ground is also getting ready. Is it bigger than Kalloor International Stadium?

Its not an international Stadium, rather a playing ground with international standards. It's part of KCA's plan to construct ground at each district. They already done it in wayanad, Trivandrum, Thalassery etc. In Trivandrum they are constructing one more in 10 acres of land at mangalapuram. Each costs around 10 crores.

By no means it looks like another ground. This is vast in size. May be an older image will show more justice to the view of stadium:
EDIT: A Recent image:

The stadium has been designed in such a way that two matches can be played at the same time. This would be the first such stadium in the country.
The stadium will be the second biggest after the proposed one of KCA in Kochi. It will come up in a 15-acre land 5km away from Thodupuzha town.

The stadium will come up in a 15-acre land, about 5 km away from Thodupuzha town, at the foot of the Western Ghats. It is surrounded by trees as far as the eye can reach. KCA is planning to complete the first phase of the construction at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore within four years. This will be a world-class cricket stadium with two grounds so that two matches can be played at the same time- the first such stadium in the country. The proposed State Academy of KCA would come up here.

So, it is 2 stadiums of KCA in T?

The area ear marked for the second stadium in this sports complex.. The pavilion would come up in between the two stadiums Other features include basketball, volleyball courts, swimming pool, facilities for billiards and snooker games, shuttle badminton courts, gymnasium and indoor training facilities for sports persons and vast parking facility.

2nd stadium being built also can be seen. So, dismissing this development as some small cricket stadium by KCA is misinformation.

This is a great development for Thodupuzha. From the looks of it, its definitely a huge one on par with other international stadiums. The stadium is built in Inchiyani, which is not along any major road. I can only imagine that there will be huge development of infrastructure in and around the area as accessibility to the stadium will be increased. The momentum can be used to promote the suburban highway

This roads only needs some level tarring and some straightening so that Thodupuzha/Erattupetta/Idukki side can get better, faster and shorter connectivity to Ernakulam city.

A character of Idukki district is most parts of Thodupuzha taluka is not part of Highranges as many know. Since, it is made part of Idukki, the assumption goes like it's all forests out there. But, it is Not. Vannappuram should've ideally be part of Ernakulam (Muvattupuzha) district since that region is an old settlement and was connected to Kothamangalam earlier.

The most important municipality to form is, after Munnar and Kumily is to upgrade Vannappuram-Kaliyar as a municipality. This will drive development to these areas. Besides, Vannappuram, Kaliyar lies just below the hills in the flat lands and low ranges and is closer to Thodupuzha, Kothamangalam by 15-20kms only. Well connected to Muvattupuzha, Thodupuzha, Kothamangalam. Ernakulam city is around 70kms only from Vannappuram. Aluva is 55kms only. Muvattupuzha is 26kms only from Vannappuram.

Also, old timers are recollecting Kaliyar (Vannappuram) used to be a town older than Thodupuzha by age. Somehow the area got stagnant.

What is the present situation in Vannapuram? The spread of urbanization, size of the town-area, commercial establishments, etc?

A small town. Vannappuram and Kaliyar are closer. Population is increasing, because Vannappuram-Kaliyar closer to the eastern parts of Muvattupuzha taluka like Pothanicaud, Paingottur, Adivad as well as well connected to Thodupuzha through Karimannoor, Muthalakodam. Yes, this area will grow in coming decades, because even though situated near the highrange border, the region has a lot of flat lands, paddy fields and good connectivity to all the major towns and even to Kochi too.

See the terrain, those regions I've visited there..have pleanty of water and the paddy fields are still cultivated. Thommankuthu waterfalls is nearby. Altitude is around 30-60 MSL only. Mullaringad and Neryamangalam are the newly inhabited regions which are in hills.
