Prem will update regarding this shortly as he has reliable source on this. Currently, I am in Mumbai and has no direct contact with anybody from Kollam TP, though my house in Kollam is just 13 Kms away from Kollam TP!

@ Prem, please address the relevant queries of Travancore13 posted below:

Now there are 12 small and medium(none are startup) operating from TPK.Total area of Ashtamudi tower is 7 Lakh sq ft.currently around 250 direct employment(techies office staff)and around 100 indirect employment. From feb 2016,all these numbers will reach to high, because 16 new companies are coming in floor 2nd,3rd and 4th floor.4 more will come during March-April.Mode of space Allocation is SBC Only.Campus built in 40 acre.Only 5 acre is now used. When Asthamudi tower filled,I think remaining land will utilized for new phase.Or some biggies should come up to take space outside and build their own building.
If Some forumer currently working in Tpk can give more details.

Premraj, please be factual when you post something . Total built up area of existing building in Technopark kollam is just below 1.2 Lakh SQFT. Please don't exaggerate things, it will only give bad impression about the destination. This is a request.

I think everyone understand is current IT Building is phase1. I will explain,5 lakh sq ft is a single IT Building known as Ashtamudi tower. For feasibility study ,they constructed only a part of Ashtamudi tower which is 1 lakh sq ft.Total built up area of Ashtamudi tower once it completed is 5 lakh sq ft and Club house and hostel are constructing part of phase1 will result in 7 lakh sq ft Facilities. Phase2 and 3 will come up anywhere else. It is not associated with ashtamudi tower.

Thanks for the update @premraj.

So by mid 2016; we are looking at around 30+ companies with c.500+ direct employment...Around 40-50% occupancy levels for the existing 1.2L Sq Ft built up space @ TPK!

I think we do not need to get too much concerned or go overboard regarding Kollam TP now. It is a slow but gradual and steady development. From a future perspective, Kollam Bypass completion, Kottiyam - Kundara road widening, and the most important one Kollam - TVM NH-66 completion is going to give a major push for Kollam TP's development prospects. Till that time development will be slow and steady. But the current development from a Kollam's perspective is healthy and joyful. Nobody expected these things atleast 7 to 8 years before.

With a development package for Kundara's urban infrastructure development and more land acquisition nearby the exisiting park including the 200 acres of Alind and 75+ acres of Cyramics can take the total area of Kollam TP to around 300 acres and may assure a great future plan.

I do believe that at a later stage Cyramics and Alind (not seeing any revival pans for Alind) will give way to the expansion of Kollam Techno Park in future.

I still believe that location of Kollam technopark is its biggest disadvantage. Now it takes atleast two hour to drive from Trivandrum TP and Airport to Kollam TP. Things would have been much more better if it was setup between Paripally and Chathanoor.

Premraj, please don't get frustrated some one rectify you. Take it in correct sense. Technopark Kollam also needs to grow with the support of Technopark Trivandrum. Then about the language you used, I know to use it better than you.

Sreejith010,

Heard that RP was planning a project somewhere near the southern border of Kollam. If gets materialized, will benefit both districts.

If there is a will by our politicians, another TP can be set up at the stretch between Paripally and Chathanoor as well. But LA will be a head ache as the land price is the highest in Chathanoor - Paripally stretch similar to Karungapally.

Also, disadvantage should be made as the advantage. You cannot expect an airport at the doorstep. 75 Kms distance is not a big deal if we have good and wide NH and related roads.

Our disadvantage is not the location, but narrow NH-66 and connection roads towards the IT park. We cannot blame the location if the associated infrastructure is poor. Kundara - Kottarakkara stretch alos requires development.

Tidbits: I have just completed my journey from Surat to Mumbai. The distance from Surat to Mumbai is 290 Kms. I have traveled this distance by road in 4 hours despite queue at atleast 5 to 6 tolls and a check post and passing Mumbai and Surat suburban traffic. It was a 6-lane road but the travel was just cool though the climate was hot. This is what good roads can provide us. Main industries along the Maharashtra - Gujarat coastal belt are at Vapi which is 174 Kms away from Mumbai and 105 Kms away from Surat. The nearest airport to Vapi is at Surat and the next one is at Mumbai both more than 100 Kms away. This distance does not matter due to good and wide NH-8.

[email protected]: When you are stating that a potential 300+ acres can be easily made possible @ existing site, why discuss a new location at all.. And are we not overlooking the Rail connectivity to Kundara..Thts an important link to East QLN.

Btb..whtz the broadband deal @ TPK ? How does that bit work - BSNL?

yes it is possible by taking land of Alind.Alind was the one of big industry in Kerala by area and land availability.Tpk and alind are close to each other.tpk also close to Kerala Ceramics. They also hold acres of land. Its an industrial area.
BSNL is the internet provider Via OFC.also Asianet was the first provider.Tpk not in a rural area. But in a Suburban satellite town Kundara,13 KM from Kollam city.62 Km from Airport.(1 and half hour journy by car max 2 hr via Tp road kottiyam).NH 206 Kollam -Theni is passing infront of entrance of Tpk.also NH 744 is 1.5 km away. Kundara is soon added to Corporation of Kollam because its neighbour areas up to Chandhanathop is in Kollam corp.Else it will be next municipality in kollam.Very fastly growing town.

Kundara Railway station is one of the Adarsh station in India. 1.5Km from tpk.also tpk not a stand alone Project,it is consider as part of phase 3 exapansion of TP Trivandrum.

The following sketch provides a rough idea of Kollam Techno Park and neighbouring Alind Factory and Ceramics factory, This is a rough sketch for understanding only and not an accurate one.

It does put things in a good perspective...TPK may over the long term evolve as the most scenic of the IT parks.

The key here should be to get a major IT name on board as quick as possible.
