Parliamentary vyamohangal illatha pacha aaya manushyan.

But sorry to state that, many politicians misused his good image and made advantage out of that.

So many a times it was like 'sishtan dushtante phalam cheytha pole'.

Nilambur and Kottackal Municipalities.

Kondotty /Karipur- Not this time.

http://www.hindu.com/2009/08/18/stor...1853560400.htm
Plan to upgrade 5 grama panchayats

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A proposal to upgrade five grama panchayats as municipalities and bifurcate 14 others is understood to have been drawn up for the consideration of the Delimitation Commission.

Official sources told The Hindu here that it has been proposed to upgrade Karunagapally, Thrikkakara, Kottakkal, Nilambur and Neeleswaram as municipalities and merge certain panchayats with the adjoining municipalities. The number of municipalities will go up to 58.

As per the proposal drawn up by the Local Self-Government Department, Nattakom and Kumarakom panchayats have been recommended to be merged with Kottayam municipality, Thycaud and Pookode with Guruvayur, Purathussery with Irinjalakuda, Eloor with Kalamassery and Thiruvankulam with Thrippunithura. Maradu panchayat has been proposed to be integrated with Kochi Corporation. There is no proposal to upgrade any municipality as corporation. It has also been proposed to merge five panchayats in the capital with Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

In the wake of the merger and upgradation, the number of panchayats is likely to decrease from the current 999.

It is a good decision to upgrade Nilambur and Kottakkal. Apart from this Edappal, Tanur, Tirurangadi, Karippur (Karippur, Kondotty, Pulikal, Pallikkal, Nediyiruppu, etc) can also upgrade as Municipalities.

There are 40-50 other panchayats in Kerala which deserves Municipality status.

Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kannur, and Palakkad should upgrade as corporations.

It is also better to merge Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, and Thripunnithura with Kochi corporation.

Malapuram should be upgraded to Corporation

Malapuram Corporation is a good idea for the boosting of the Brand Malapuram. This will include Malapuram Municipality, Manjeri Municipality, Pookotur, Kootilangadi, Anakayam and Makkaraparamba Panchayats. This will be possible because the distance between Malapuram and Manjeri is just 12 kms..!!!
Also the distance between Malapuram Town and Kottakkal is 12 kms...!!!
This will result the development of entire district.

Malapuram-Calicut Suburban Railway proposed.

Calicut-Malapuram-Angadipuram Suburban Railway is a dream project of Malabar.
This line also connects the Karipur International Airport and the proposed Aligarh University Malapuram Campus.
Proposed AMU Campus is setting up in Chelamala near Cherukara Rly.Stn. which is next to Angadipuram on Shoranur route.
This line is a long pending dream of 3.7 Millions of Malapuramites, to have a rail link through their capital city.
Mr.Ahmedji, though he is elected from Malapuram, should take the initiatives for the implementation of this project.

Dear Quraishie, we already have another thread for Malappuram. So better we focus there and hence continue further discussions over there.

May I request the Moderators to move these postings over there and close this thread ?

Welcome to the forum Quraishie and appreciate the good brains.

But oru cheriya doubt illathilla.
Some of your thoughts I find similar to that evolved from the mind of a Captain.

Let us forget that and be realistic and discuss on what is achievable at the moment.

In the near future, Malappuram is not gonna be a Corporation. We have the Panchayati Raj and Nagarpaalika Acts, regulating so many matters related to the Rural-Urban affairs.

Ofcourse, Malappuram and Manjeri are few km apart and so does is the case with Kottakkal. But how far is Tirur from Kottakkal, if the Malappuram-Tiru distance is 26 km? if we think in that way, we have to merge Tirur Municipality also along with the "Corporation" as proposed by your goodself.

For upgrading & merging a Panchayat and/or Municipality to another Municipality and / or Corporation, there are so many factors apart from the distance between them.

If you travel across the Central Travancore, via the MC road, you will find that Chengannur Municipality (Alappuzha District) sharing boundaries with Tiruvalla Municipality (Pathanamthitta District) and immediately you will find Changanassery Municipality (Kottayam District) sharing boundery with Tiruvalla. If that is the case, we should demand to merge these 3 municipalities spread across three districts to form a Corporation.

The need of the hour is something different. Malappuram is one of the districts having the maximum NRI cash flow. We have to channelise that and build up the basic infrastructure. There are lots of stuff to be done in the primary and secondary sectors. Being the first e-literate district is a good thing, though it won't solve the common man's issues. Just take the case of Chandra Babu Naidu, who miserably failed to (or even forgot) provide facilities to the rural population, at a time while the world was appreciating him for making the Cyberabad !!!

Consultant to be appointed for Ponnani port project

Investor selection thru Swiss Challenge Method.

Under the Swiss Challenge Method, the company that made the proposal will not participate in the global tender. The company will be given the opportunity to match the terms contained in the best bid received through the tendering process.

Mony K. Mathew
Kozhikode, Aug. 24
The Kerala Government is in the process of appointing a consultant for the development of Ponnani port in Malappuram district.
The consultant will study the detailed project report being prepared by a Chennai-based company, which proposed the development of the port through Swiss Challenge Method.
The State Government had issued an order in July last year approving the development of the port through public-private partnership (PPP) and selection of a private investor through Swiss Challenge Method.
The proposal is to develop Ponnani, which is an estuary port where Bharathapuzha joins the Arabian Sea, into an all-weather facility for handling vessels of up to 50,000 DWT. The construction of the port will be on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis with a concession period of 30 years, according to officials of the Directorate of Ports.
Global tender

After the consultant ensures that the terms and conditions of DPR are in conformity with the Government views, a global tender will be floated to select an investor to develop the port.
The final criterion for the selection will be the highest percentage of revenue accruing to the Government once the port commences operation.
Under the Swiss Challenge Method, the company that made the proposal will not participate in the global tender. The company will be given the opportunity to match the terms contained in the best bid received through the tendering process.
If the company accepts the terms, it will be selected to implement the project and run it commercially over the permitted 30- year concession period. Otherwise, the company will be given compensation for preparing the DPR and other costs incurred by it by the bidder selected for implementing the project.
As per the proposal, the Government will not extend any financial assistance for creating the supporting infrastructure for the project such as road connectivity and electricity and water supply systems. It will act only as a facilitator for the smooth operations of the port.
