This is not the Oceanus project in Kasargod. The rendering is different.

I am from calicut.. But still rarely hear news from kasaragode. Its always a mystery what happens there.. Mysterious names for most of the places. Seems its more like karnataka culture than Kerala when we move north of kasaragode. Well I would say "Kasaragode: The mysterious Place".

Thanks sakrishna.

Kasargod has also a vidyanagar much closer to NH-17 than Mangalore Vidyanagar.
If confirmed that this is in Kasargod I will repost it back.

This isn't coming up in Kasaragod. This is in Managlore.
Please read carefully, the project is located across NH, (Near Infosys and Mangalore varsity) towards Kasaragod. This is clearly understood from Wikimapia. Vidyanagar is about 15kms from Mangalore city centre.

Actually both mangalore and Kasaragod are less known to me. When I visited the site, I noticed that all the other projects of this builder are located in Mangalore.I simply searched Vidyanagar in Wikimapia. I could see that Infosys and Mangalore university are very close tho this place. Thus I conlcuded that it has to be in Mangalore. If I'm wrong, sorry.

There are two Vidyanagars, both are near to NH-17, both are on the way to Kasargod, and both are important locations. Kasargod Vidyanagar is where the engineering college and civil station is located. This company has projects in Mangalore, Bangalore and Kasargod(Uppala). Now from their website description its really difficult to understand whether it is Kasargod or Mangalore.

Meencha to house maritime institute

Quote:
KASARGOD: The first maritime institute in the state under the Indian Marine Academy will start functioning on a 12-acre land in Meencha near Manjeswaram within a year, according to Capt P K R Nair, Special Officer. He told mediapersons here on Thursday that survey for the project had already started in Meencha grama panchayat and a suitable place with basic facilities had been identified.

Seven courses will be introduced at the maritime institute initially. The institute will function under the Director General of Shipping and will follow the syllabus of the Indian Marine Academy, he said.

“Meencha was selected to house the maritime institute because there are a large number of youths in Manjeswaram and the adjacent areas who are employed in ships,” said Nair.

The institute will charge the lowest fees from candidates. The courses offered include diploma programmes in maritime services, combined engineering programmes, first aids, safety and social responsibility and detection of fire dousing techniques.

Any updates on this?

I think both KSRTCs are going to introduce seasonal tickets.

First of six five-star resorts in Bekal commissioned

S. Anil Radhakrishnan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bekal, the sleepy village in Kasaragod which has one of the largest and best preserved forts in the State, has entered the tourism map with the commissioning of a resort there.

The resort at Beevoroi in Uduma grama panchayat is the first to come up in the six plots leased by the State-owned Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC). The soft opening of ‘The Lalit Resort & Spa’ was held in November last year. The resort with 40 luxurious rooms, floating cottages and helipad was formally inaugurated by Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Sunday.

The Minister also kicked off the work for the resort in the land leased out to the Green Gateway Leisure Limited (Air Travel Enterprises India) at Chettukundu in Pallikere panchayat.

A parking bay near the Bekal Fort to cater to the needs of three lakh tourists who arrive annually was also inaugurated by the Minister.

BRDC Managing Director Shaji Madhavan told The Hindu that the construction of the resort of the Jamshedpur-based Globlink Hotels & Entertainment Limited at Malamkunnu in Uduma panchayat is expected to start next month. The resort at Kappil in Uduma panchayat is expected to be ready by this year. Seventy per cent of the civil works of the resort of the UAE-based Holiday Group of Hotel is completed.

Investment

An investment to the tune of Rs.750 crore is estimated at Bekal, which was declared as ‘Special Tourism Area’ by the Union government in 1992 for the integrated resort development, on completion of the five-star resorts on the six leased plots, Mr. Madhavan said.

The six plots on 89.03 hectares have been given on lease on a 30-year period. The resorts are coming up in 76.89 hectares spread over four panchayats.

Backwater cruise

Valiyaparamba, one of the most beautiful backwater stretches, is 19 km off Bekal. The BRDC is gearing up to meet the needs of those who come for backwater cruise from Valiyaparamba to Ezhimala. Kerala Tourism has constructed a Rs.2-crore boat terminal at Ayitty kadavu. The BRDC is in the process of operating boats from there.

Already over Rs.100 crore was spent at Bekal for creating the infrastructure facilities. ‘Thanal,’ the project office of the BRDC at Bekal, was converted into a hotel for walk-in tourists. An airstrip for small aircraft is being planned at Neeleswaram, 17 km off Bekal. Talks are on to explore whether services of Thiruvananthapuram-based Rajiv Gandhi Aviation Academy can be obtained.

Cultural complex

A Rs.3-crore cultural complex is proposed to showcase the history, culture and art forms of place. One acre has been identified at Thachangad in Panayal village for the complex, Mr. Madhavan said.

Malabar package

A secular sculpture by Kanayi Kunhiraman is planned on the beach that offers spectacular view of the fort.

The roads leading to the resorts are being developed under the Malabar Package. The government has sanctioned Rs. 8.35 crore for the land acquisition and Rs.20.21 crore for the work.

In addition to the High Tension line that supplies electricity to the resorts, the KSEB is thinking of providing separate feeder lines to the resorts. A sub-station near Bekal has also been proposed.

The BRDC had submitted a proposal to Kerala Tourism for developing the Kottkunnu-Bekal Fort and State Highway to Bekal Fort beach stretches into model roads at a cost of Rs.99.8 lakh.
