• Leizel Sicangco confirmed that Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez have been married long before the Ibaloi wedding rites in Baguio City.

• TV5’s five-hectare broadcast complex in Pioneer St., Mandaluyong City, on the other hand, is set for completion and available for use in 2012. TV5 is set to introduce its high-tech version of TFC next year.

WILLIE REVILLAME has been given “complete creative freedom” as host and co-producer of the game show “Willing Willie,” TV5 Creative and Entertainment Production head Percival M. Intalan told Inquirer on Monday.

TV5, through chair Manuel V. Pangilinan, recently signed a co-production deal with Revillame’s Wil Production Inc. “Willing Willie” is scheduled to premiere third week of October in a slot that pits it directly with the evening news programs of ABS-CBN (“TV Patrol”) and GMA 7 (“24 Oras”). Also in the works, said Intalan, is “Born to be a Star,” a talent show with Revillame as host.

“Willie is the best choice for these shows,” said Roberto Barreiro, TV5 executive vice president and chief operating offier. “We believe in handling creative people like him in a way that’s comfortable for all.” Revillame hosted the top-rating ABS-CBN game show “Wowowee” before it went off the air in August.

Will Revillame be allowed to engage in “casual advertising” as he did in “Wowowee?”

Barreiro said, “We struck a a co-prod deal with Willie, different from from his deal with ABS-CBN.” He did not elaborate.

Beefing up news

Barreiro said the network is also beefing up its news department “in a major way.” He explained: “We recently bought 45 cameras and we’re buying more vehicles. We also bought a news automation system. Everything will soon be fully-digital. We’re hiring more reporters and fine-tuning operations so we can improve news gathering and presentation by leaps and bounds.” A new studio in Mandaluyong City will soon be opened, he added.

The Broadway Centrum studios in Quezon City will be home to three TV5 shows— “PO5,” “Star Factor” and “Face to Face,” Intalan reported.

Intalan commented on “Face to Face,” a show hosted by Amy Perez and patterned after the US tabloid talk program “The Jerry Springer Show,” where quarreling neighbors confront one another. The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board recently called the network’s attention after viewers complained of violence on the show.

“In a meeting with the board, we explained that it was inevitable to run into incidents, given the nature of the program,” Intalan related. “Now we make sure every episode ends in a resolution.”

Perez was a perfect pick for “Face to Face,” said Intalan. “Other networks reportedly wanted to create rival shows but their big challenge was finding the right host.”

Intalan also had nothing but praise for Ryan Agoncillo, host of the talent search program “Talentadong Pinoy.” He said, “He’s not an exclusive talent but he’s kept his word like a real gentleman. He promised to stay with ‘Talentado.’ ABS-CBN gave him ‘Pieta’ and then ‘Fear Factor.’ We simply worked around his schedule.”

TV5 hopes to build its own stable of talents through the talent search “Star Factor,” said Intalan. (Actor-director Audie Gemora is head of the talent management division).

Meanwhile, Sinemabuhay, the network’s movie arm, is producing “Rosario,” an entry to the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival in December. Albert Martinez directs.

Also coming soon is an international TV channel. Meanwhile, an FM station, Radyo5 92.3, starts broadcasting today.

TV5 to spend P10B to become No. 1 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Lenie Lectura / Reporter
Sunday, 03 October 2010 11:16
MediaQuest Holdings Inc., the Media holding company owned by the PLDT retirement fund of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., has allocated P10 billion in for the continuing expansion of TV5, to make its television unit the number one broadcasting network in the country.

Being in a hurry to build the infrastructure TV5 needs to make its dream come true, MediaQuest has allocated most of this budget, or about P7 billion, until 2011. The remaining portion of the budget will be spent until 2014.

“To build out the entire facility we will spend around P9 to P10 billion,” MediaQuest president Ray Espinosa said last week.

The investment, he said, will be spent for broadcast transmission, network and operations, inclusive of new studios and offices.

MediaQuest has earlier projected TV5’s revenue to hit P1-billion by the end of the year but is not expecting the station to become immediately profitable. Espinosa said such may happen in the coming years because “we are in a start-up move” adding that it is still in the process of building up its facilities including the acquisition of vehicles for improved mobility of its talents.”

Based on a five-year plan, we are working toward becoming profitable sometime in our fifth year,” Espinosa said.

Espinosa has expressed optimism on achieving profitability, which he said is anchored on the increase in advertising revenues of TV5’s programs such as Talentadong Pinoy, Midnight DJ, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, Face to Face.

“Advertising revenues will more than double this year compared to last year,” he said, adding that the ratings of TV5’s hit shows are doing very well that many continue to place advertisements during the time slots when these are shown.

TV5 will start the construction of its new headquarters, which will house six studios, in Mandaluyong City in November this year but will retain its three studios in Novaliches.

The TV station, which MediaQuest acquired from businessman Antonio Cojuangco, will also strengthen its reach nationwide and plans to put up a station abroad.  “Definitely any network would have to do that. TV5 Global will be our foreign station. We have more than enough local programs to put up a good network for overseas,” said Espinosa.

TV5 will also put up a UHF channel and a radio station in the FM bandwidth. “The timetable for the overseas station, UHF channel and radio station are all Asap. Everything is being done simultaneously but the interest is to do it quickly because we know that this will provide revenues,” said the official.

Espinosa admitted that TV5 has a lot of catching up to do to beat Channel 2 of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. and Channel 7 of GMA Network. “We have to aspire to be number one. We will put our resources to achieve that goal.”

Earlier, MediaScape Inc., another unit of MediaQuest, has sought the approval of its application by the National Telecommunications Commission to put up 50 broadcasting systems nationwide. If approved, the facilities could be utilized by TV5.

Among the areas where MediaScape plans to put up TV stations are Butuan, Zambales, Coron, Ormoc, Bohol, Tacloban and Albay.

TV5 allocates P10b to battle ABS-CBN, GMA-7

by Jeremiah F. de Guzman
Manila Standard
Oct. 4, 2010

MEDIAQUEST Holdings Inc., the operator of TV5, is allocating P10 billion in the next four years to build state-of-the art facilities, an official said Friday.

“We are on a start-up period. We are rebuilding everything,” company president Ray Espinosa said.

“We don’t look at the income yet, so we know that we will incur losses in the first few years. We have a five-year plan, and based on that, we are working towards being profitable on year five.”

Espinosa said the company would earmark P9 billion to P10 billion from next year up to 2014 to acquire new transmitters and a facility in Mandaluyong City that would house six studios by 2012, bringing TV5’s number of studios to 10 in two years.

“We plan to break ground in November,” Espinosa said.

“We plan to transfer the news block in September next year, and the balance will be a year after.”

The expenses on the ultra-high frequency channel, which would be under Nation Broadcasting Co., a commercial UHF television station owned by the First Pacific conglomerate, and radio stations would eat up most of the budget.

The programming costs would reach P2 billion this year and P1 billion next year, Espinosa said. The TV network would be going international soon and would be tapping “the same market currently tapped by the two networks.”

“We want to get that market as soon as possible as there are revenues that come from overseas distribution,” Espinosa said.

TV5 had established TV5 Global, which is in charge of promoting the network’s programs abroad, and was now developing its online portal that would contain news and shows aired in the TV network.

“We are strengthening our new media,” Espinosa said.

Roberto Barreiro, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of TV5, said the TV network had been able to secure a 10-percent share of the audience nationwide and 12 percent in Metro Manila.

“We just want double-digit market shares, and we were able to do that on our first year,” Barreiro said.

“Now the targets have been upgraded.”

Barreiro said the network was now seeking permits to expand in 50 areas nationwide, and that its coverage had reached 70 percent. The target was 85-percent coverage by the end of this year and 95 percent by June 2011.

Advertisers were now receptive to the network as a result of its improving ratings and reach, Espinosa said.

“We offer a new platform and a new outlet for [advertisers], and obviously, our rates our lower with them on a negotiated basis,” he said.

TV5 Poses Bigger threat; Network Brings Back 'Batibot'
October 12, 2010, 10:29am

http://www.mb.com.ph/node/281738/tv5-po

MANILA, Philippines - Already recognized as an innovative and cutting-edge television station, TV5 has shown remarkable improvement since it was launched as the revitalized Kapatid Network under the chairmanship of business leader Manny V. Pangilinan.

TV5 launched 20 new shows in its re-energized programming grid this September and the results have been very positive. Much more is expected this October when Willie Revillame’s new primetime show “Willing Willie” begins.

Another much-awaited comeback that will surely please both parents and their young children is the launch this November of “Batibot.” The revival of “Batibot” on TV5 will delight generations of Filipinos who grew up with the program and are now in the position to watch their favorite childhood show with their own children.

Feny Bautista of the Philippine Children’s Television Foundation, Inc. will be producing the program for the Kapatid network. A Cartoon Network block and “Disney Clubhouse” will also be launched in October and November.

“News5” has also entered into a major tie-up with the world’s top news broadcaster CNN. This will enable TV5 to deliver the latest news from all over the world in real-time to its audience.

“Aksyon,” TV5’s primetime newscast, will also be making the big move to an earlier timeslot.

To prepare the network for the bigger challenges of the future, a state of the art facility is now being designed to house the new TV5 headquarters in Mandaluyong City. The existing studios in Quezon City are also being upgraded with the latest digital production equipment.

MVP Is really agressive. He doesn't want TV5 to be No. 2, hes aiming for the top. He doesn't want to waste his money either in this investment, he wants to earn big by becoming the leader in the industry

just wondering....

Why would TV5 expand to Mandaluyong while there are still more empty
lots there near their vicinity? like the current SM City Novaliches..
MVP could have acquired it last year from SM or from its original owners
so that they won't need to expand to Mandaluyong... di ba?

Here's the map for the new TV5 studio in Mandaluyong.
The light blue is the on-going construction of the building.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

There are possibilities that the blue roofs (on the lower right side). are the ones TV5 acquired
but from what i understand from the map of the rendering, its that area where i put some color..
