What is the upper limit for these Special trains fare.

Unless they put a cap on that - say 2 to 3 times of the normal fare - like that, this may not be successful.

Tickets that are bought after reaching the stage will not have dynamic increase.

Quote:

I like the new dynamic pricing - at least now people who are willing to shell out money can get seats in the last minute. But there should be some changes if they want to make it work

- I read that sometime the prices are not revealed until the booking is completed. I don't know if this is true - if this is indeed true, it should be changed. Even while booking an air ticket using dynamic pricing, we see the price clearly before booking.

- if they want to fairly price the seats, the upper end should not exceed airline prices. The average prices should be far below that.

IMO, except for a couple of UR compartments, every seat/birth can be dynamically priced. The market forces will automatically bring the prices down to what the market will bear. People are happy they can get seats any time provided they are willing to pay some more. The railway can use the excess revenue to complete much needed projects and provide/improve basic amenities to passengers.

Railways are giving about 85% of the sleeper class tickets at damn cheap rates. (Erode to Chennai at just Rs 250 for 400 Km journey with berth facility. No bus can give at that rate for sleeping facility).

second sitting seat is even cheaper and suburban tickets are almost at through away prices

Also 3 tier AC and 2 tier AC at nominal rates.

So balance 15% of the seats are being sold at higher rates in order to counter the losses incurred by cheap selling of 85% seats.

Since the railways are unable to increase the fares in line with the cost ( like giving freedom to oil companies to fix the oil prices), they have to do this.

Passengers who can not afford to pay/ not willing to pay the higher rates can very well plan in advance for the 85% seats.

However on premium trains, Railways can run such trains provided alternate ordinary train is also there in the same route unlike Madurai-Jaipur premium train which has failed

Railways uses 20 year old coaches and also fuel usage is 1/10th compared to Buses..... Etc... we cant pay for inefficiency of IR employees...

IR should increase private participation in wagon, engine ,track building, station and maintenance.. and operations should remain with IR railways just like BSNL or other Public sector companies.....

Premium trains are good,, only issue i feel is that we should be aware what we are paying... we cant just blindly press pay button.....

Well said. 85% of the people are benefitted most. For the next 15% seats, those who can pay, let them pay. Else, railways will get hit. I agree fully that if railways are charging premium rates, the facilities also have to be to the class required. That is woefully lacking. Wish someone files a PIL and ensures that railways give the respect for the money the customer gives.

I think most of us here are not opposed to Tatkal or Premium Trains.

The dynamic pricing of a few trains going above the plane fare is absurd and IR provides the same rickety coaches and not swanky coaches.

They should have enough cheaper alternative trains for the poor people also.

They should fix up the upper limit and make the scheme viable.

New Train to Kerala in Pipeline, Says MP

Quote:
PUDUCHERRY: Lok Sabha member R Radhakrishnan has taken the initiative to introduce new trains from Puducherry like former Union Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy did. He had been instrumental in introducing 17 new trains linking the Union Territory.

In response to the plea from the Kerala Samajam, Radhakrishnan considered the appeal and worked for the introduction of a train service from Puducherry to Thiruvananthapuram via Ernakulam. “Besides, I am now trying to get the Tiruchy-Nagore train extended to Karaikal,” Radhakrishnan told Express.

The Thiruvananthapuram train would be useful to over 30,000 Malayalees residing in Puducherry, as well as others. On the other hand, the Tiruchy connectivity would also be beneficial for the people of Karaikal.

Grievance Description : Daily Tutucorin-Mangalore overnight superfast express via vanchamaniyachi bypass Thirunelveli Nagercoil and Trivandrum should be operated. The train should leave Tutucorin at 3 pm and reach Mangalore junction by 7 30 am.This train will provide direct connectivity between important places like Kannur Calicut Ernakulam Trivandrum with important commercial port city Tutucorin similarly the train should start Mangalore junction by 4 pm and reach Trivandrum by 6am and subsequently Tuticorin by 10am. The freight traffic in this route can also be improved substantially and seemless connectivity between important ports such as Kochi Kollam and Tutucorin can be achieved. Another important demand is the operation of daily Kochuveli Karaikal overnight express via Trivandrum Neyyattinkara Nagercoil Madurai Thanjore Nagapatnam. This will connect Trivandrum with important pilgrimage centers such as Thanjavoor Nagore and kaarikal with Trivandrum. Religious and cultural unity can be acheived. At present there is no connectivity. The train should start kochuveli at 7 pm and via Nagercoil should reach trichy by 4 AM and karikal by 8 AM. Extension of Trichy thirunelveli intercity superfast express to Trivandrum is another important demand. The vanchinad express rake reaching trivandum from ernakulam is lying idle for 8 hours at trivandum. This rake can be effectively operated to trichirapally from Trivandrum and incoming rake from Trichy reaching Thirunelveli can be extended to Trivandrum and this can be operated as Trivandrum Ernakulam vanchinad express. This is simply possible by rake sharing arrangement. The traffic during this time from trivandrum trichy is nil and people from kottayam changanachery can also reach tirunelveli Madurai the connection for which is completly absent. Trivandrum New Delhi Kerala express should be allowed to travel through Ernakulam town without touching Ernakulam junction .This will save travel time by 45 miniutes and time energy and cost involved operations can be considerably reduced. Possibility of operation of trivandrum mysore biweekly superfast express can also be explored.

I think tuticorin will only get connection to Mangalore via Madurai, palghat and calicut after gauge conversion.

New features in 139

II. NEW FEATURES OF INTEGRATED TRAIN ENQUIRY SYSTEM (139)

http://www.sr.indianrailways.gov.in/...3CE8464.web107

The Integrated Train Enquiry System (139), introduced during 2007, is a very useful system providing train related information such as accommodation availability, current status of PNR, etc. to passengers instantly.Passengers have found this system to be very helpful.

In the recent past, new facilities such as ‘Spot your train’, ‘Mobile based destination arrival alerts’ and ‘Mobile based alarm alerts’have been added to this system.

The ‘Mobile based Destination Arrival Alerts’ is now available on SMS / IVR / Agent assistance through 139. This facility helps passengers on Indian Railways to set an alert / pre-information call before they reach their destination.

‘Spot your train’, yet another helpful facility, is also available through 139.This facility helps one to know the exact location of a train.Passengers can make use of these facilities to get additional information and services.

Passengers stranded following landslip on Nilgiris rail track

Coimbatore (CBE): Around 150 passengers of the Nilgiris Mountian Rail (NMR) Train service were today stranded in the middle of the ghat section following landslip on the track near Aderley Station.

The heritage train, which started at 2.30 PM from Udhagamandalam, was stopped half-way before Aderley following landslip, with boulders on the track, railway officials said.

Around 150 passengers were panic-stricken as they were stranded in the middle of the jungle on ghat sections, amid rains, police said.

Railway authorities arranged vehicles to bring passengers to Mettupalayam, for which they have to climb down about three km and some railway staff are assisting them, railway officials said.

Meanwhile, the train returned to Coonoor and in view of the landslip, the services of NMR were cancelled for tomorrow, officials said.
