It seems like they have been slow on construction on the crown lately. Doesn't seem like much progress.

San Francisco is one of most beautiful city in US ready without this supertall building. Some may say it needs more supertall modern skyscrapers to catch up with HK or Shanghai.... but the people in SF doesn't care because they enjoy more historical buildings , landmarks, parks and beautiful neighbors like North Beach, Alamo Square, Noe Valley.....
Remember this building is sitting in South of Market where it is totally dead after 8PM or weekend and nothing much to do here.

I hear there is a delay again.
1/3 will be the office for Saleforce and the rest will be residences.

I don't think that's true:

Quote:
Salesforce has leased 881K SF inside its namesake tower and was the developerÂ’s biggest signed deal during the quarter. Salesforce Tower was 82% pre-leased by the end of the quarter, according to Linde. Current discussions involve law firms, co-working companies, private equity, venture capital, hedge funds and private foundations. If deals in negotiation are completed, the tower will be 90% leased. Salesforce will start moving into the building in early 2018 with its move-in spanning six quarters.

WeWork, the New York-based co-working and shared office space leader, is finalizing the lease negotiations to take three floors in Boston PropertiesÂ’ & HinesÂ’ Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. News about them taking space in the building has been circling around town for a while now, but today the information had been confirmed. With each floor measuring approximately 25,000 square feet, that would make WeWorkÂ’s lease in the tower at approximately 75,000 square feet.

On top of that, Salesforce had decided to take six additional floors in the building, or roughly 1500,000 square feet.

VERY TRUE.

I now live in Hong-Kong (and lived in San Francisco in the 2000's). yes hk has supertalls but the most interesting towers of HK are those built in the 80's and 90's mainly...

What has been built those past 15 years (IFC, ICC) are just ok and are of the style of Saleforce Tower (Especially IFC).

What is being built now in Hong Kong is mainly crap like that New World Center in Kowloon : an eyesore...

Now there is one area where Hong Kong will never take on SF or any other major US cities : it is the quality of the Street level architecture ! and the diversity when it comes to the façade of those tall buildings.

Hong Kong is great and impressive as a whole and the bay, a mix of hills and Skyscrapers blended together is somptuous....but individually, or street level-wise, it's quite boring : they destroyed most of the historic buildings to build "corporate type of architecture"...

In that respect, even Shanghai is way more interesting than HK.

Speaking as another San Franciscan-Hongkonger, SF is a beautiful city with or without supertalls. The architecture in HK is very disappointing, no matter the number of tall buildings. Certainly Chinese cities are winning the skyscraper arms race. However, when one looks at the overall cities+tall buildings combination, SF is unmatched.

Thank you for the update. I am little bit behind.
That is what I hear when I spoke with my friend who is working at Saleforce.

Not true. Salesforce Tower is all commercial office, with a mix of tenants (Salesforce taking the most), but there is NO residential.

SF is unmatched? Are you kidding me? SF has one of the best skylines overall in North America but I'll still take HK's over SF's any day. The amount of skyscrapers along HK's harbor is impressive and at night when it is lit up, it is even more impressive. I'll also take cities like NYC, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Dubai, and Chicago over SF's skyline.

Well, to each his own. I've grown to appreciate SF's skyline, coupled with the numerous bridges linking the city and the region. Perhaps, the most iconic structures in SF may not necessarily be supertalls in my opinion: Coit Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge, Transamerica Pyramid, and now Salesforce Tower (with Transbay Terminal).

Dude did you read any of his post? He's talking about looking holistically at the cityscape, beyond just tall buildings: the natural landscape, the streetscape, the diversity and history of architecture at all scales.

When you take the alchemy of those intangibles into account, SF easily ranks near top of "complete" cityscapes worldwide, along with the likes of New York, Chicago, London, Tokyo, etc.

Ok, if you are talking about complete cityscapes, SF is top 10 to top 20 in the world. It is definitely in the top 5 in North America.
