838 Km of New Railroads by Yearend

Quote:
Iran will inaugurate 838 kilometers of railroads by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2018), a deputy minister of roads and urban development said.

“The 267-km Tehran-Hamedan rail project will become operational in the coming days,” Kheirollah Khademi was also quoted as saying by ILNA.

“Four other provincial capitals will also join Iran’s rail network in a prioritized order by the yearend.”

Khademi also said Qazvin-Rasht, the so-called Gharb (West) project, connecting the city of Arak in the central Markazi Province to Khosravi Border Crossing in the western Kermanshah Province bordering Iraq, as well as Mahabad-Urmia and Mianeh-Bostanabad railroads will be launched this year.

Tehran-Hamedan Railway opened, May 8, 2017

During a visit of President Rohani in Hamedan, the new railway line has been opened officially. Several agencies reported the news and there are also some pictures from the ceremony, which have been done apparently at Hamedan railway station. According to these pictures, Pardis trainset must have performed the whole line up to Hamedan, which means that track laying at least has been completed.

According to the agency news, Saveh and Hamedan stations - which are the most important on this line - are yet to be completed. Also there are plans to built a more central station in Hamedan, as the current site is approximately 15 km from the city center (https://goo.gl/maps/oeDU1bve6K92).

Here are some pictures of the ceremony at Hamedan station from ISNA news

I could not understand when regular passenger service is planned to start. But maybe we get to know more at next week's railway exhibition in Tehran...

With the presidential elections a few days ahead, the pace of opening new lines goes faster.

Today it was the turn of (a section of) the Kermanshah line: the railway has been extended another 67 km from Malayer to Firouzan. At least the station has been opened.(https://goo.gl/maps/vAayiZzqzRL2)

As I could learn from RAI, Tehran-Hamedan passenger trains should start within 2 month, means July to August 2017.

Iran Finalizes €2.2b Rail Deal With China’s CMC - Exclusive

As per a €2.2 billion deal with China to electrify the 926-km-long Tehran-Mashhad railroad, the operational speed of the line will be raised to 200 km/hour

Iran has finalized a €2.2 billion deal with China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation, known as CMC, to electrify a 926-km railroad from Tehran to the northeastern city of Mashhad, a deputy minister of roads and urban development said.

“Two-thirds of the contract are financed by the Chinese government with a very low-interest rate. And the remaining one-third is covered by Chinese insurer Sinosure (China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation Asghar Fakhrieh-Kashan, who oversees Iranian firms’ talks with international businesses, told Financial Tribune in an exclusive interview.

“Issues regarding the government guarantees were resolved during Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia’s recent visit to China,” he added.

Tayyebnia arrived in the Chinese capital Beijing last Saturday to represent Iran in the New Silk Road summit, formally known as the “Belt and Road Initiative”. He met with senior Chinese officials, including his counterpart Xiao Jie and Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission Guo Shuqing.

"Only drafting and other paperwork remains," Fakhrieh-Kashan said, announcing that CMC representatives will be in Iran in June to sign the contract.

“This is an important project that raises the operational speed of the line to 200 km/hour, meaning passengers can travel from Tehran to Mashhad in about four and a half hours.”

A subsidiary of China General Technology Group, CMC is an international engineering contractor in transportation infrastructure, industrial facilities, and power plants. In 2014, the company constructed the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed railroad, together with China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and Turkish companies.

Iran’s MAPNA Group is “the main domestic subcontractor”, Fakhrieh-Kashan said.

The Iranian holding signed a preliminary deal in October 2016 with Germany’s Siemens for the joint manufacture of 70 electric locomotives to be used in Tehran-Mashhad route.

Tehran-Qom-Isfahan High-Speed Line
Among other major railroad projects Iran is carrying out with the help of international companies, Fakhrieh-Kashan referred to a high-speed line from Tehran to Qom and Isfahan, for which Iran has already signed a contract with China Railway Group Limited known as CREC.

Although the contract, which is currently in effect, was signed in 2015 with an estimated value of €1.8 billion, its scope and value are expected to expand.

Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi has ordered the redesign of the route to make it more efficient and remove the flaws the ministry detected in the previous design, including the location of the train stations in Tehran, Qom and Isfahan.

“The contract has been signed, the letters of credit are open and work on 11 construction sites is currently underway,” Fakhrieh-Kashan said.

CREC is a Chinese construction company listed in Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges. The major shareholder of the company is the state-owned China Railway Engineering Corporation.

By revenue, CREC was the largest construction company in the world in the 2015 Engineering News-Record "Top 225 Global Contractors".

Iran Signs Rail MoU With Deutsche Bahn

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Iran’s Bon Rail Company, a rail passenger transport firm affiliated with Iran’s Mostazafan Foundation, and German rail company Deutsche Bahn AG on the sidelines of the Fifth International Exhibition of Rail Transportation, Related Industries and Equipment, which was held in Tehran on May 15-18.

Some 300 domestic and foreign companies, including those from Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, France, India, Ukraine, New Zealand, Turkey, Latvia, Spain, Russia, China, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Italy and Germany, participated in the event.

The MoU pertains to “technical and financial cooperation”, Bon Rail CEO Alireza Sheikh-Taheri was quoted as saying by IRNA.

“Based on the MoU, Deutsche Bahn will provide us with financial and technical consultation,” he said, adding that Bon Rail has previously signed a contract with DB to “improve its fleet”.

Established in 1994, Deutsche Bahn is a private joint-stock company headquartered in Berlin, with the Federal Republic of Germany being its sole shareholder. It carries about 2 billion passengers each year.

Bon Rail has 128 passenger wagons in its fleet with the average age of 11 years. The company transported 1.7 million passengers in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2017).

Currently there is a weekly passenger train from Mashad and Tehran to Nakhjavan (Azerbaijan exclave). It runs through Jolfa railway border, where boogie exchange to broad gauge is done.

There is also passenger train twice a month from Zahedan to Quetta in Pakestan. This train is operated by Pakistan Railways. The service is frequently interrupted because auf security reasons in the Pakistan Baluchestan region. Sometimes it is limited to the border (Mirjaveh).

There are no other regular passenger trains crossing borders of Iran, but there are daily freight trains through the borders of Sarakhs and Incheh Boroon with Turkmenistan and the border of Razi with Turkey.

Occasionally there are luxury passenger trains for tourists crossing to Iran from Turkmenistan.

Does anyone have info on the planned railway from Tehran-Sanandaj-through Kurdish territories in Iraq & Syria-to the Med Sea?

What will the destinations be? Is there a concrete plan or was it just an idea voiced by Rouhani?
