DARWIN - #UC: Northcrest (Berrimah Farm)

THE Northern Territory Government and property developer Halikos Group are banking on a recovery in Darwinís flagging real estate market, with the announcement of a major new residential development.

The two parties have signed a development agreement to turn the 168ha Berrimah Farm site into a new suburb with 2000 homes, two new primary schools, and a retail precinct.

Halikos Group managing director Shane Dignan said he expected increased defence spending to drive the NT economy over the 13-year life of the project, creating demand for the homes.

Behind the high density buildings look like a series of the same. Dog boxes... I know it is only a render, but it appears like a minature version of a new Chinese city where everything is uniform in a grid and all the buildings look the same.

I just looked up the location.

Why would any one want to live within close proximity to the Prison and an industrial area? Sure it has the Stuart Hwy and Tiger Brennan as major roads near by. However to the south the site borders with the prison....

Below on the right is the prison...

Is there really such a need to do such kind of a development?

Looks like everything will end up looking similar with no real variety.

I would hate to live in there.

At least there are clear sight lines and some bigger lots in and amongst the development.

New school and some intergration with the neighbouring light industrial/ commercial area.

Yes exactly my thoughts.

The only attraction I can see is itís central location for commuters. Itís also got a a few elevated blocks which seems to be a premium feature up here
