Darwin Projects Map

Hey Guys! I decided to make a public projects map for Darwin as there is a lot going on there and as most people aren't familiar with the area like myself I thought a map might help out.

This is a public map of all the developments currently Proposed, Approved and Under Construction in Darwin.

Feel free to add projects to the map or edit existing ones with new/better info.

Please only use renders for projects instead of construction photo's.

Also please add a link to the developments thread if possible.

Red = Proposed
Green = Approved
Blue = Under Construction

Couldnt believe how much apartment construction was going on. Not only in town but also in Nightcliff, Karama and a few other suburbs.

Great stuff Eastern. There is an 8-storey apartment building called Catalina (because the Cats were based nearby during the War) nearing completion on Mitchell Street, just to the north of the Daly Street intersection and over the road from the U/C one you've highlighted. Speaking of the latter, that's in a race with Catalina for completion. Both sites once hosted car yards. There will be another one going up next door (to the latter - sorry can't recall its name, but I think it's covered elsewhere in here) soon, which the blue shading acknowledges. On the next corner immediately north of that, another site is currently under excavation. And the land adjacent to Catalina that fronts Daly Street, which currently hosts the Catalina site office, will almost certainly be developed soon. These developments are apparently being block-leased by resources companies for 457 visa workers at the rate of knots.

Wasn't sure where to put this news article but it reckons the Development Consent Authority in Darwin is sitting on a Billion's Worth of Projects.

Includes but not limited to Jape Homemaker Village Extensions, a $100 million dollar hotel development in Stuart Park, an extra level added ontop of Casuarina Square, an 18 storey development on vacant land opposite Bunnings Site as part of a $200mil Palmerston redevelopment...

http://www.ntnews.com.au/business/nt...-1227308234945

Article Dated 17th of April 2015.

interesting one developer is seeking to push for a development which exceeds the prsent height limits..

While it’s a plus for the restricted accommodation scene in Darwin, the proponent is seeking to build above the height limitations that are stipulated by the Northern Territory Planning Scheme.

Not sure about the value of the Stuart Park budget hotel. $100 million for 60+ rooms seems excessive.

Does anyone know the location of the Stuart park development? There doesn't seem to be a thread for it.

Havent seen anything apart from the NT news article.

However the site is between henry st and westralia st on the outbound side of the highway. Next door to the buff club if you look on google maps. Or the second building past geranium st on the highway

Nice on, Culwulla.
I think 4, 10, and 11 should be marked as under construction yellow instead of purple?

Darwin may get a new waterfront six star hotel.

Darwin’s six-star hotel dream to attract world’s richest investors

ASHLEY MANICAROS NT NEWS AUGUST 27, 2015 2:17PM

A LUXURY six-star hotel in Darwin’s CBD is the next target in attracting wealthy Australian and international tourists seeking an ultra-high quality tourism experience.

Internationally recognised hotel chains such as the Shangri-La Hotel groups and Accor -Sofitel/Pullman have shown interest in establishing a brand presence in Darwin.

The NT Government will call for expressions of interest before the end of this year from investors prepared to build a high-end resort hotel.

The accommodation expectation would be similar to the Park Hyatt at Sydney’s Rocks and Crown Towers in Melbourne which offer 24-hour private butler service, exclusive views and a bottom room rate starting at $1200 per night.

The Park Hyatt boasts Opera House views from its kingsize beds.

Undeveloped parts of Darwin’s waterfront, especially vacant land near the cruise boat terminal, offer unobstructed sea views. Skycity Casino’s recent financial year results flagged the “potential activation of the Little Mindil site (adjacent to the property)”.

An option for government to provide land for a development will be included in the process.

Tourism Minister and Chief Minister Adam Giles believes there is a “growing demand” for six-star accommodation in Darwin due to the increased corporate travel chasing “business investment opportunities.”

“We are chasing low volume high yield travellers rather than high volume low yield travellers,” Mr Giles said.

“We own a number of sites in the CBD, and in inner suburbs that may be suitable for urban or resort-style hotels. We are trying to facilitate public and private investors on board and improve our suite of services.

“The level of investment could be greater than $100 million depending upon the location, nature and scale of the development.”

Mr Giles said only 8 per cent of Darwin’s total room stock was categorised as “luxury accommodation”. Sydney has 22 per cent of room stock categorised as luxury.

“While there are a number of new accommodation projects in the pipeline over the next few years, these developments are largely targeting the mainstream market, delivering the equivalent of four stars,” Mr Giles said.

“A new hotel of this calibre would give Darwin a significant edge in the lucrative business conference market – which currently injects about $89 million into the economy each year.”

The EOI process is likely to comprise a two-phase process involving an initial non-binding offer phase, followed by a short-listing process.

Short listed bidders would be invited to submit fully developed and costed bids. Assuming a suitable bid is received, it is anticipated a contract would be awarded in 2016.

Casuarina Square set for new restraurants and myer is still on the cards

Quote:
Big changes for Casuarina Shopping Centre
DANI MCDONALD | NT NEWS | AUGUST 31, 2015 4:20PM

A $34 MILLION development of Casuarina Square will transform what was a shopping centre into an entirely new town centre over the coming year.

GPT, the owners of Casuarina Square, have set their sights high for the second stage of its master plan following the recent establishment of a student accommodation building.

Plans for the development include a new outdoor restaurant and leisure precinct that will open for lunch and night time dining, and there will be a children’s play area and water feature for families to enjoy.

Another area will be created for a community space where people can grab coffee or lunch and sit under a shaded area.

The development is planned for the area outside the entrance to the movie theatre up to the old Fasta Pasta building.

Casuarina Square centre manager Dean Young said the precinct will see 10 new restaurants opening in an arch surrounding the playground.

One of those restaurants will be Hogs Breath, which closed its doors at its Darwin City store last year.

The remaining restaurants cannot be confirmed yet but Mr Young said “they’re massive chains” that have never been represented in the Territory before.

“To us it’s really exciting, it’s a phenomenal step forward,” Mr Young said.

“It’s another dimension of what we don’t have.”

Mr Young said the vision of GPT was to create a precinct where people can stay all day, rather than just do their shopping.

“We’re going to be more than a shopping centre — we’re going to be a destination,” he said.

Mr Young expects foot traffic to the centre to increase once the development is finished next year.

At the moment numbers sit at about eight million people a year.

“We would expect that to grow but we haven’t fully understood the potential of this,” Mr Young said.

Edge Health and Fitness Club will also undergo a huge transformation over the next nine months. It will remain open during the development.

Works officially started yesterday but will be visible as of next week.

Mr Young said there would be minimal disruption to neighbours but said if there are problems he hopes the community will call the Square.

“We’re confident surrounding neighbours won’t be disturbed as we do this development,” he said.

“If people support us we will be able to get this development done as quickly as possible.”

The development is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.

The Myer development is still on the cards once this current revamp has been completed.

Looks good, wonder if they have talked with David Jones? They are looking at adding more stores where as Myer is cutting back on their current stores.

Well according to an article in the AFR from back in April 2015 Myer did have plans for a reduction in stores and shelving of newly planned stores. However there were three developments that were not affected by these reductions/shelving plans:

Westfield's Tuggerah, The $1 billion dollar Coomera Town Centre and GPT's Casuarina Square.

I've updated the map so it's easier to read the info for projects. Google My Maps has also received a UI update recently which allows the ability to view renders in full screen.

If anyone knows more info about projects please let me know.
