To be fair - most of the equipment that could be used for exhibits are rusting away in the Pilbara/Goldfields, or in yards across Hazelmere, Welshpool, Kewdale, Kwinana and Henderson. But it would be better if it was a totally new "Science, Technology and Engineering" museum - incorporating Scitech as well as Resources technologies and more (stuff about the SKA etc).... rather than "The Gina Rinehart Museum of Western Australian Mining, Oil and Gas equipment, sponsored by Andrew Forrest"

Sounds like it needs to be out at Whiteman Park.

The history is quite interesting though, how Coolgardie used to be a city of about 15,000 people at the height of the gold rush etc, and the legacy of those boom-bust goldrush towns. Some of them are just rubble now, that used to have thousands of people living in them.

Eugenius is on the money here. Science is woefully under appreciated in this state.

Hopefully WA will play a decent part in the Australian Space Agency

You don't have to tell me that, but mining isn't really science, it's necessity driven innovation at best, digging shit up at it's most basic.

In fact in terms of science in WA, I think we're well on the way to the new dark ages. People go on about Trump, we're well ahead of what he's doing.

SKA is a long way from mining? It's the one thing we have actually managed to get right lately.

WA could be ideal for the space agency - masses of open space and generally reliable, clear weather in the central eastern parts of the state. Don't understand why they are talking about Arnhem Land - surely the tropics aren't the most ideal place with their thunderstorms / unpredictable weather patterns (although Houston, Florida and French Guyana are all in the tropics and all home to spaceports.... so maybe being close to the equator is important...).

this is what Perth needs...

it show cases what is essentially a core WA identity... putting it out on display is part engagement and education to tha wider public.

anything can be under appreciated if people don't know about it or have experienced it. you also can't encourage greater appreciation and value if tha only thing that gets publicly spoken about mining is all the negative stuff. cashed up bogans etc etc.

Equator is better for ‘bang for your buck’ cost of fuel as you need less thrust to get up to an orbital velocity - however the disadvantages you mentioned aren’t trivial either -constant scrubbings due to weather, unauthorised activity in launch zones, restrictions due to residents etc are all costly. So perhaps they even out enough for it to make it worth while.

What would have looked better was to have the ceiling all aboriginal art and get rid of that floating truck. That truck alone is so unbelievable and silly.

I also bet the only reason there is even Aboriginal art in there is because they are trying to make it look like the two coexist. Where as in reality they have destroyed a lot of it in the past and have just kept areas only after petitions from conversationalists, local natives etc.**

As for those trucks suspended in the air. It would be better if actual real ones were used in a separate room showing people how big they are.

That was my thought about those Aboriginal art-style motifs - pfft hypocrisy of highest order. But it gets embarrassing always being the cynical one. They crush petroglyphs all over the place, the most obvious of the cultural heritage doesn't even have a chance let alone the more subtle stuff.

Inpex, alongside NAB on north face.

At Exchange Plaza (is it still called that?) RSM signage is going up on all side.
