An Albanian Journey (August, 2005)

A Journey Through Albania
as told by Sarajka ;)

(All pics August, 2005)

It's a warm and sunny day when your plane touches down in Tirana, the Albanian capital...

After leaving the airport, you can walk around town and have a look at all the interesting architecture!

Following that, you make your way up - wwwaaayyy up - for panoramic views. Yes, Tirana is a great city - it'll be even better when it's finished...

As night falls, you have to come back downtown to see the city all decked out in lights.

After that, you head to the train station...but where are you going to go next? ;) You'll have to see which have room and try not to make too much fun of Mila's storyline, or that there is a story at all. :D

But one of the trains sure has a lot of girls in bikinis getting on it, so maybe we'll follow them...to Durres...

The train ride out of Tirana is an eye-opener. You pass through some of the poorest villages in Europe, but still people seem to be smiling and happy...

Finally you arrive at the Durres train station, and - although the Albanian countryside is beautiful - it's good to be on the coast.

You don't even bother going to a hotel first, just take your bags and run for the beach!

After a quick dip in the water, and finding a nice hotel, it's time to explore all the old Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman relics in the old part of Durres...

Then you check out some more recent communist-era relics:

Then you go back to the train station, but you have to make a choice...will it be Berat or Shkoder? Berat...or Shkoder? Which one's cheapest...which one needs to wait until this thread has a second page...:D

Oh yes... Thanx Mila! One thing to keep in mind if you like visiting the coast in Durres is to visit beaches that are away from the port where cleaner water can be found and there's more fun around. If you get a bus from Durres to Kavaja you can stop by the coast some better places and the trip will cost some 40-50 Albanian Lek or less which convertes to 20-30 cents Euro wise. Benilva, Golem and Mak Albania are popular destinations that are at a safe distance from the port in terms of pollution. Also there are very nice bars and restorants, open air clubs, nice hotels etc. If you like staying close the beaches then Illyria beach is the most popular, but its more polluted because the city is very close.

Not working for me.

@FR. Save them on your PC, and then upload them again on imageshack or photobucket.
They are attachements meant to be seen only on the forum where they were attached. The other forum doesnt allow hotlinking.

@Error. You are seeing them because you probably have seen them before on ForumiShqiptar. They load from the browser cache on your PC.

maybe the internet in arkansa is fucked up. one question though, how did an albanian end up in Arkansa? in the middle of nowhere.
