Mysore railway division's overall revenue rises 11%

The overall earnings of the Mysore Division of the South Western Railway has risen 11.02 per cent to Rs 527.37 crore over the previous year.

It has transported 52.2 million passengers this year, earning 13.52 per cent more at Rs 222.64 crore over 2013-14. Loading has shown a 3.8 per cent increase, 3.455 million tonnes as against last year’s loading of 3.33 million tonnes. Earning from coaching, goods and sundries are Rs 13.78, Rs 274.12 and Rs 16.83 crore, respectively. Earnings from ticketless travel has yielded 17.62 per cent at Rs 4.85 crore over the previous year. Punctuality of mail/express trains is 96.2 per cent and that of passenger is 98 per cent.

These figures were revealed at the 60th Railway Week celebration on April 22 by Divisional Railway Manager Raj Kumar Lal when announcing results of the just-ended financial year of 2014-15.

To reduce the waiting time for buying unreserved tickets, ‘Operation Five Minutes’ were introduced from March 30 at the Mysore Railway Station to clear extra rush during peak hours between six am to 6.45 am, and 3.30 pm and 5 pm.

Under ‘Nirantara Jyothi’ scheme, seven stations had been provided with power supply as it will help passengers during the boarding / alighting from trains at night. To conserve energy and to encourage non-conventional energy sources, two solar power plants of 2.88 kV were set up above the divisional office and 5 kVA at Nanjangud station. About 395 redundant works of 688 works had been identified.

The fiscal saw five trains being flagged off from the division during the financial year, he said.

A Technical Training Institute for staff, the first training institute in this Railway, was opened at Arsikere on December 15. After training on IT, the Division will have a core group of experts who can design any need based software for accounting/monitoring day-to-day activity. For safe carriage of men and materials and to avoid accidents, psychometric training to loco pilots had been launched for the first time in South Western Railway.

The division, Lal said, had mechanised cleaning system at Mysore and Arsikere coaching depots to improve the cleaning of coaches. Two high quality and heavy duty reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water plants at Mysore and one each at Shivamogga Town and Davanagere stations were installed.

Introduction of passenger feedback system had been introduced to collect feedback from passengers about comfort and to improve passenger security. Feedback forms were being analysed regularly and improvements carried out wherever feasible. As many as 846 appointments had been made.
