Here are some pictures of the Skyview that will be completed soon. Great addition to downtown Clearwater.

This commercial ground floor space looks like a great location, hopefully something as good as the new Clear Sky bistro a few doors down will move in.

The Nolen is almost completed, I would say it is already about 40% occupied.

The rear buildings were completed first and these along Cleveland are still wrapping up.

Mercado and festival plaza for Clearwater's East Gateway moves forward

Tracey McManusTracey McManus, Times Staff Writer

CLEARWATER — It's not as if the makings of a Little Mexico district aren't already there.

Clustered in a few square miles around where Cleveland Street doglegs into Gulf to Bay Boulevard, there are restaurants serving homemade carnitas and flautas, groceries with imported candy, a strip mall with an outdoor bulletin board advertising apartments for rent in Spanish.

But the centerpiece of the district is currently an old, vacant car rental office in a triangular island in the middle of the intersection. Beyond a few "downtown gateway" banners on light posts, there is nothing announcing this cultural hub or its family-run businesses.

Times recommends: Yes on Clearwater referendum to improve waterfront

Thursday, October 5, 2017 1:33pm

In addition to the Penny for Pinellas referendum, Clearwater voters will be asked to amend the city charter to allow modest improvements along the downtown waterfront. This is another key step for the impressive Imagine Clearwater plan to remake the waterfront into an attractive destination with more amenities and plenty of open space. There is no formal opposition, and city voters should approve the referendum.

Last year, Clearwater voters approved three incremental steps toward enhancing the waterfront. Those referendums allow the city to make modest improvements to the small downtown marina, move and expand the band shell in Coachman Park and expand the uses of the city's attractive library on the downtown bluff overlooking the harbor. Now it's time for voters to take the next step.

Latest hotel proposal on Clearwater Beach packs lots of rooms into a small space

Tracey McManusTracey McManus, Times Staff Writer

CLEARWATER — The latest hotel proposal for Clearwater Beach aims to pile seven stories and 88 rooms on .59 acres of S Gulfview Boulevard.

That's cramming nearly three times the number of units technically allowed on a property that size. But the Gulfview Lodging project is being made possible by the city's hotel density reserve, a pool of extra rooms created a decade ago developers can draw from to expand their projects.

Clearwater voters easily pass referendum allowing waterfront redevelopment
Published: November 6, 2017Updated: November 8, 2017 at 11:44 AM

CLEARWATER — Voters in Tuesday’s election overwhelmingly agreed to amend the City Charter and allow construction along the downtown waterfront, effectively greenlighting the city’s $55 million Imagine Clearwater redevelopment plan.

The referendum passed 75.8 percent in favor out of 15,109 votes, according to unofficial results.

"This was a grassroots effort," Mayor George Cretekos said. "I’m overwhelmed by the support. It shows people care about Clearwater and are supportive of our plan to make the downtown, Coachman Park area everybody’s second neighborhood."
