Berkowitz Plans 1000-Foot Skyrise Miami Observation Deck

Quote:
Developer Jeff Berkowitz has submitted plans to the city of Miami for an observation tower called Skyrise Miami, exMiami has learned.

The Arquitectonica-designed proposal is slated to begin construction in 2014 on a surface parking lot behind Bayside Marketplace.

Skyrise will include three observation decks. Also included: A restaurant, nightclub, private lounge and a ballroom. Other attractions planned are a moving theater, Skyplunge and Skyrise Drop.

Berkowitz is best known for developing major shopping centers throughout Miami, including Aventura Commons, Dadeland Station and Fifth & Alton.

The FAA has granted approval for Skyrise Miami to be built at a height of 1000 feet above sea level (990 feet above ground level).

*Note: SkyRise developers have submitted a request for a 1,045 ft. height to hold the title of Miami's tallest tower.

There could be more, if 444 Brickell goes supertall.

Warren Harding;
Sheriff Woody; and
Woody Harrelson all like this tower.

Huh, well this is very nice.
But it seems likely that this will end up in the Never Built section. It has only a slightly better chance of being built right now than Miapolis, imo.
I would love to be wrong about that, though. Building it would be extremely complicated, and it would be very interesting to watch it rise.

I'm sorry, but those diagonal beams ruin the whole thing.

A 300 meter tower is great for Miami but this building is rather hideous. They should choose a better design if they want to build something over here

In Germany we call things such as that design "Schnapsidee." Do you need a translation for that?

Well, I guess we'll see. I don't hold high hopes that this will be built, but I hope it will be.

I tend to agree with you here. To me, it looks like a giant hairpin and I'm afraid of this becoming a laughing stock for the city in the long run.

Someone could still buy the old Empire World site as well.

All beloved city landmarks begin their life as "laughing stocks"

I can think of about a few hundred counter-examples to that statement.
