British patient to undergo world's first virtual reality cancer operation

3:24PM GMT 25 Mar 2016

A British cancer patient is set to have his operation live streamed using virtual reality technology in a world first.

Viewers will be able to watch the ground-breaking surgery next month using a smartphone and virtual reality headset, making them feel as if they are in the operating theatre.

Using several specialist cameras placed above the operating table the surgery will be broadcast live from The Royal London Hospital on April 14 and will last between two and three hours.

Shafi Ahmed, who has championed virtual reality technology in surgery will perform the operation and called it a "gamechanger" for healthcare innovation and education.

Virtual Reality for Skyscrapers, Interior Design, and Real Estate market

Skyscrapers
VR companies are building a 40-floor condominium to show the layout before being built to help presell spaces.

Real Estate
VR helps to simulate an environment, create surroundings so that you feel a part of them.

Interiors
Using a custom tool, designer can easily model in full 3D. VR adds to that, because, when they have the ability to put a VR headsets on their head and stand in their newly created room, so they get an actual feel about the space that they will have when they build the extra room.

So much possibilites with VR

A new web-based software platform is swiftly bringing the visualization of 3D data to every device, optimizing the use of, for example, virtual reality and augmented reality in industry. In this way, Fraunhofer researchers have brought the ideal of "any data on any device" a good deal closer.

I found out about this company yesterday and I found it very interesting:

https://irisvr.com/

Basically, you can take any model you have in Revit, SketchUp, 3DS Max, etc and with their product you can "go into" your model and move around with VR glasses and positional tracking.

Have you guys heard about them? Has somebody used it?

I am currently developing an article in my website Architect Gadgets about new VR products. A part from the ones you have posted in this thread, do you know any other products for Architects that I could feature?

Thanks!

Augmented reality. Yes or no?

Hello, everyone.

I'm new here, and I'd like to open a discussion about AR in construction and architecture, what do you think, does it a future?

I'm the product manager at a company which develops apps for Hololenses, and my priority is an app for AECO, so I'm genuinely interested in this question.

If it's ok I could post here a link to my medium blog where I reviewed all apps there in this market/

Hello, Ivan.

We don't sell Hololences, we sell only licenses for our soft, it cost $1000, but of course, we can make discounts, as everybody else

Regarding Hololens, they cost $3000 for Development Edition for developers and $5000 for Business(you can buy either of them.
They sell it in 39 countries, price is same everywhere
