All Indian stadiums are ugly... Whichever is the most beautiful is also ugly. Seeing stadiums of Australia is such a treat to watch. Always mesmerized since I started to watch cricket. Despite having lot of money, no one knows how to build good stadium in India. I also don't have have much expectations from new cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. I am sure it won't be as good as Australian cricket stadiums.

Oh what a tragedy that would be

Another sub-standard multi-purpose stadium in Ahmedabad

Well I think Stadiums are beautiful in India - I liked the Dharamshala and the Nagpur (VCA) ones. The quality has improved drastically then what it was back in the 90s.

But I think Indian Sun hit the nail on the head by mentioning about advertisements. They do make the stadium look like eyesore. Plus not to mention the settings of Australian stadiums - located in nice area (skylines around), air quality making it look even more beautiful. The only stadiums that India can boast of as far as surroundings are concerned is Dharamshala, Wankhede (because of its location in South Mumbai).

The problem with Feroz Shah Kotla is the lack of space available. That eyesore of a stand (with inclined rows) is because of attempts to increase capacity when there isn't any space to expand.

Problem is that BCCI want every stadium to have 60k capacity. THEY ARE GREEDY AS HELL. With 60-70m boundary at Kotla and they want it to host every 3rd match in a season.

Learn from Australia, how many matches does Canberra host? Being the capital of country doesn't mean it is mandatory to conduct a match there.

Thiruvananthpuram, Raipur, Rajkot and Ranchi should host more.
... and scrap ugly and small ones like Indore and Kanpur.

Btw, what happened to Jaipur ground ? It was good, wide and open ground.

What most cricket associations do is they will organize competition for design of stadiums & few architects will participate in it & they will select best one amongst few. This is not the right way. One should search best architects around the world who already have built good stadiums & select amongst them & not some random local competition... For example new Lucknow stadium which is decent at max has been designed by local architect of Lucknow who has a very crappy website & is not of national or international repute... Their website gives lot of clue & small projects they have undertaken. I don't know why UP government chose such architect... I am not surprised Lucknow stadium is just average.. The design of pavilion stand is so outdated but good thing is it has long boundaries just like Raipur.
And it's not about Lucknow alone, so many average stadiums are being constructed like Trivandrum, Dehradun etc.

Regarding Jaipur stadium, RCA are making new stadium & cricket academy in Jaipur.

Indore stadium & Kanpur stadium are bad no doubt & should be scrapped along with Cuttack.
Even Chinnswamy stadium in Bangalore is below average.

The Australian example would perhaps not be the correct one here. Australia hosts Test matches only at the traditional venues. The Big-5 ... MCG, SCG, Gaba, Adelaide and Perth. Hobart gets a Test only if there is a 6th Test in the season.

In India, our traditional Test venues were Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kanpur. Then we added Ahmedabad, Mohali, Nagpur ... then a host of other centers. But we don't follow the traditional centers getting a match every season. We allot matches on rotation basis. In fact in the last India-Australia series, the Australians were not very pleased that 3 of the 4 Tests were in Pune, Ranchi and Dharmasala (instead of say Mumbai, Kolkata or Chennai).

If the below points are taken care off, I see no reason why a visiting team should complain whether the match is held in Mumbai or Mapusa:
1) Quality 5 Star Hotels for accommodation
2) Excellent playing surface (Ground condition)
3) Conducive environment (proper security, decent crowd etc)
