Great work going on in the land of my forefathers, I see. African roads are generally a mess, and the new Somalia coming up needs not tread the path trodden by other EA countries like Kenya and Uganda: do not skinflint on roads!

I am always proud whenever I hear something positive going on in Somalia. Great job!

Within Mogadishu ~25 KM of road is being repaved (main roads initially). The project is ongoing and good progress is being made, it looks like its being done to a high standard.

I hope they will use road markings! We need to make distinctions between roads for safety. I have never seen them in Somalia.

Here's another recent picture in Mogadishu.

I am hoping that the recent proposal to renovate the highway from Galkacyo to Burco will include turning it to a dual carriageway along with other future major road projects in the region. I'm not expecting expressways with ramps (yet) but dividing the road would help lessen accidents and promote inter-city trade.

Hargeisa municipality starts the construction of Hargeisa ring road (more photos in link)

The municipality of Hargeisa has started the construction of a ring road that will circle the city from all sides , according to the local press. The road is planned to reduce the traffic within the the city and to accommodate the heavy trucks that carry goods to the Western parts of Somaliland and the cargo trucks carrying commodities that are imported by Ethiopians through Berbera Port . All heavy trucks from Berbera to Ethiopia will go around the city and will not pass the centre of the city when the ring road is finished. Another dangerous transport that will not pass through the city are the trucks carrying Khat from Ethiopia to the eastern parts of Somaliland. Khat trucks often go fast even when going through Hargeisa and have on many occasions caused fatalities among the residents and the urban animals in the capital.
This project is part of the development of the infrastructure of the capital and the beautification of Hargeisa city launched by the new management of the local government.

Love this news. Somalia is avoiding the mistakes Kenya made and planning early. Its only now that Kenya is building Ring roads and bypass roads

I agree, you would have thought that road markings would be standard! Here is a recently paved road in Hargeisa, we need more of this:
