My observation is that not smoking in public is pretty much a uniquely American thing.

Hard to believe but Italians smoke even more, everywhere, all the time
I'm reminded of SNL's Hader.

I was looking around King County Parcel viewer and noticed what seemed like an error on the property lines of the Bay Vista Condos (2nd Ave south of Broad Street). The alley behind the building seemed to be part of the property. I found a site plan in King County's on-line scans that shows the parking garage does indeed go under the alley and the city did vacate the alley (at least below grade vacation). I'm familiar with areaways under sidewalks and a few other oddball layouts around town but does anyone know of other garages that extend under alleys?
Street view of alley: https://goo.gl/maps/NCuwrr51VUG2

In the current era of vacations being rarely granted or held hostage I thought this was extra interesting.

Four Seasons goes under the Union stub, which it did pre-demo as well. The structure also went under First a bit.

True but I think of that as a weird old legacy condition of regrading Seattle way back when. Getting a vacation in the early 1980s for this alley still seems extra special.

Saw that someone is trying to register Amazon employees to vote. Good idea. Maybe if more of them voted they wouldn’t be political punching bags for the Stranger and its writers who seem to think Amazon “brogrammers” are the greatest threat to a thriving city.

Apparently they aren’t trying that hard.

Diversity is a great thing! Too many brogrammers is not a good thing, but far from the greatest threat, especially since Amazon is setting up shop to expand elsewhere.

On the front page of Wikipedia right now.

10 years since the transit tunnel re-opened in its current state.

DPD made their map prettier.

Lipstick on a pig....it's still a crappy tool.

I don't know why the old map is gone. But that was the gold standard vs. this POS.

Am I missing something? The just changed the background map? Users still can't toggle between map types (aerial imagery versus plain map)

Yes, one of the many useful aspects of the old map.

And the ability to select permits by type and time period.

And actually having nearly every project on the map vs. the pervasive errors today.

In their defense, I consider many of the new designs to be errors.

And you really think the just and decent way to increase diversity of our economic base is to ridicule and slander people with tech skills rather than, say, to try to attract companies from other industries to add jobs in Seattle?

I like the Stranger's perspective. That's what I meant by diversity. Skepticism of the "wonders" of being a big company town. Having a bigger Amazon doesn't make us economically diverse.
