#PROJECT :"Masterplan of Salmiya District"

UK firm BDP secures Kuwait city masterplan deal
Feb 21, 2011

Multi-disciplinary UK firm BDP has landed a $3.2m contract to develop a transport and planning framework masterplan for the Salmiya district of Kuwait City.

The deal, inked last month and announced last week, will see the redevelopment of the 20km2 area and will be designed to ease congestion and vastly improve the area for working and living. The masterplan, to be developed over the next 14 months, will be the first step towards improving the area, a task Kuwaiti officials have planned to take 15 years to complete.

BDP has been challenged to create a sustainable masterplan for Salmiya district to keep it car-friendly, but also flexible for future growth. This will include strategic siting of any new public works such as schools, universities and hospitals in relation to residential zones, plans for improved public transport provision, and better all-round pedestrian access to Salmiya’s shops and civic amenities.

The masterplan will also be designed to fit in with the third Kuwait masterplan known as 3KMP. The 3KMP is an umbrella development strategy for the whole of Kuwait which is designed to help cope with the intensive economic and population growth anticipated in the region over the next 20 years.

BDP has worked on developing masterplans for the West Industrial City in Kolkata, Waterfront City in Melbourne and several other major urban developments throughout the UK.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves
but wiser people so full of doubts.
