Any idea about traffic figures for George Enescu (BCM)? They still have some way to go until they reach 500k. I don't think they have more than 200k now.

I do hope you're right though and there'll be a boost in traffic.

A little over 200k last year as I've recently read in an article. I'll look for it and post the link if I can find it.

Later Edit: This one states that it was over 250k in 2009, but I have serious doubts since it's a local paper.

@Cosmin Din care am auzit, de cateva ori pe an, vine si un 747 de pasageri de la El Al, la Henri Coanda. Mai exista vreo alta cursa deservita de avioane de asemenea capacitate?

From what I notice on the map, an additional airport at Brasov (Kronstadt) could be built, especially due to the ski region. However, the relatively small distance to Bucharest (and its two airports), of 170 km, the investment seems a bit unnecessary.

A high speed rail link (high speed at least - i.e. 200 km/h) would ensure the distance can be traveled in one hour. With a decent Otopeni-GdN rail link it would make Brasov-OTP 1h15 min away. If there are frequent trains, which also ran on time it would be a better option.

While I have noticed a certain demand for an airport at Ghimbav, I think the solution I have proposed is more cost effective over the long term, and with added benefits.

TAROM could also sell connecting tickets from Brasov to be operated by CFR, ensuring ease of access.

I'm glad you like the map. I made it for this thread.

Good growth at Suceava and Constanta, but still the traffic's too low.

Sorry, I missed your question earlier. Well, a Thai 747 was at OTP yesterday (or something like that) for some reason.

El Al uses a 747 on this route, but I don't know when. I've seen them use 737s, 757s, 767s and 777s.

Other heavy aircraft that come to OTP are some DC-10s and MD-11, and the occasional An-124.

I see, but then El Al uses the largest aircraft of all companies flying to Bucharest (other than Delta maybe?). I think that the number of Romanian workers in Israel, Israeli investors here, tourists, Jews with Romanian roots and lack of ground transport and low frequency of flights makes for a great number of travellers per plane.

El Al's 747s and 777s are the largest to land at OTP on a regular basis. Delta used Boeing 767.

If we are talking about the same plane I think it was a Munich-Bangkok (or smt like that) which landed due to a medical problem of one of the passengers.

Not about Romania, but still, important news for some of us - Heathrow's 3rd runway project has officially been canceled by the Coalition of the Awesome.

You have to consider that NOBODY wants airports near where they live.

Insane noise pollution and a steep drop in property values. Of course, that's assuming the airport is built within the city limits...

I live within 3 miles of Burbank Airport and I'm definitely glad I'm not in the flightpath of the airport traffic.

We do get the occasional flyby of the "ghetto birds" (police helicopters)
