I'm not sure how you'd like it to interact with 2 SPS. Suggestions?

Looks decent to me. Kinda wraps onto it like two LEGO bricks.

Have they given any word on when demolition on the existing building will start?

I think maybe something along the lines of the previous design for the plot, which was both beautiful from every angle and its crown compliments the other 2 buildings (and Landmark)

That was an office, though. This is a hotel. Can't really drop one into the other.

I personally think this would be a pretty bland building on its own, but it's designed to mirror the wider development around St. Peter's Square - it feels like a good fit for me, and when the cafe/bar/restaurant units on 2SPS and 1SPS are fully taken up this corner should open up.

I like the colour. 2SPS is a slightly different shade to 1SPS and I suspect Landmark is more of a white portland stone than the others. Al contributing to the clean look of the fantastic St Peter's Square.

Demo prep looking already underway. Fencing has appeared around the St Peter's facing side & some lights on inside.

Construction Enquirer.

Manchester 20-storey hotel gets green light

Developer Property Alliance Group has secured planning consent for a high-rise hotel at 3 St Peter’s Square in Manchester.

3 St peter's square

Russells Construction has checked-in with the 20-storey building contract, which is to be constructed between One and Two St Peters Square.

The existing vacant 1970s building, which was previously known as Peterloo House, will be demolished with construction then starting imminently to completed the project in 2020.

Designed by Stephenson Studios in conjunction with Leach Rhodes Walker, the scheme will comprise a 328-bedroom Motel One on the ground and eight upper floors with a 262-room Staycity Aparthotel above.

Andy Lavin, development director at Alliance said: “This site has a prominent city centre location which makes it ideal for Motel One and Staycity. Each operator has a different but complementary offer which will add to the wider mix of uses in the area. Visually this development will also add to the street scene in St Peter’s Square, helping to strengthen the Civic Quarter.”

Motel One St Peter’s Square will add to the budget-design chain’s 302-bed hotel called Motel One-Royal Exchange which opened ahead of schedule in June 2017, and its 330-bed Piccadilly hotel which opened in 2015 – both were built by Russells Construction.
