Let's continue our tour in Vienna's Döbling district.

It has a distinctly upper-class reputation. Many embassies have their residences here, Austria's presidents used to live here, the hills are dotted with luxury mansions, and these are usually the first things people think of when you mention that you live in Vienna's 19th district.
Here I'd like to show you a different side - one that is frequently overlooked: new commercial office buildings, old residential neighborhoods, socialist housing projects, raw nature, scenic overviews.

Start and end point is the U4 terminus Heiligenstadt.

And last but not least, back at the U4 subway station: Karl Marx hof - a giant public housing complex. It's much larger than it appears here. The pictures really don't do it justice.

Thank´s a lot for sharing these wonderful pictures, the frames give them a very cosy attitude. I especially like picture 107 - this post-modern building was probably built in the late 80s/early 90s, there are many examples of this style all over the city - it would be definitely worth an own thread.

ad karl-marx-hof: nice one, it is actually the largest residential housing project in the whole world with a length of more than one km! it shows an efficient way to build commies with a lot of green and much space for strolling around and relaxing - no wonder that ghettos are mainly concentrated around the 60/70s commies which evoke feelings of claustrophobia.

Thank´s again!

Here's another view of that building you mentioned. And I really love that style, as well.

You got me wrong, I was actually referring to the right building in 107, which is a gelungene Variante des Postmodernismus. But you are damn right, this building is beautiful as well!

Great pictures, I have some questions:

Pic. 115 - Where’s this ferry heading to?

Pic. 116 – Is this a dining cruise?

Pic. 118 - Is the picture taken from the Kahlenberg castle?

Interesting question. I looked it up: It's a ferry between Passau, Germany and Russe, Bulgaria, operated by Willi Betz (a large German trucking company, known by its yellow trailers). It transports vehicles, from small cars to big rig trucks and heavy machinery.

This is a German cruise ship from Passau. It's one of many that operate along that part of the Danube. I'm sure they have dining on board.

Even though the village below is called Kahlenbergerdorf, the picture was taken from Leopoldsberg. The spot where I took the picture is on Nasensteig, about two thirds of the way up. It's the most direct trail up Leopoldsberg and at one point even requires a few feet of very easy scrambling. Not to confuse with Nasenweg, which is the paved trail right next to it that takes a less direct approach, but offers the same views.

Vienna after the first snow of the season.

(Somehow I managed to screw up the frames, but didn't realize it until I uploaded them.)

Excellent thread. What a magnificent city.

I like your photos too; well composed and natural colours, just how a photo tour should be, I feel like I am walking around Vienna too. Great work!
