Newcastle and the North East portrayed in the MEDIA - in Films, TV Programmes, Music, YouTube Videos, etc
I thought it would be good to have a thread for discussion on things in the media relating to Newcastle/Tyneside. Youtube clips, songs, films, documentaries, upcoming tv shows etc etc. Feel free to post.
I've gathered just a few clips from youtube to start us off with containing some very interesting shots of Tyneside from days gone by. Newcastle 1950: Clip from the likely lads with shots of Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and Newcastle: North Shields 1901: Tynemouth swimming gala 1901: Last edited by Newcastle Historian; February 8th, 2011 at 06:56 PM. |

I love the Argos ad!! I wonder when that was filmed? Were all those people really running around like that or is it camera trickery?

A couple of great McEwans Best Scotch ads from the late 80's I think where the Geordies travel to foreign countries! Some of the lyrics are great.."Florida is horrida than Whitley Bay, there's no McEwans Best Scotch in the USA!"

The Argos ad was filmed in Sept 07 outside my office window - they filmed all day and they must have run up and down the street at least 100 times

There was a great clip in the Bob Dylan movie where the formidable Lord Mayor of Newcastle Theresa Russell doorsteps Bob in his dressing room before the gig.... she was on the council from 1945 until 2002 when she was well into her 90s.

I guess some of you lot will be too young to remember these but for those of us of a certain age these will be very well recalled.

On the adverts front, there was also that Carling ad from a couple of years ago that was inexplicably filmed in Newcastle. It's the one where some bloke is racing his mate home from work to get on the armchair with a cold can of Carling. There's clips of the bridges and metro and stuff.
