Picture Nº 16 isn't Bogota's airport. That's in Cali. And the first picture shows a render that was already discarted by Aerocivil and the Colombian Government. The rest of them show the real renders that have been officially accepted yesterday by the governement in which they also included the complete demolition of the actual airport to build a completely new and modern airport which will be finished in 2012 to become the biggest and most modern airport in LatinAmerica.

What's the planned capacity? Judging by the renders I would say 25-30 milllion.

The 'X' render (the first one) is not longer the actual project. It has been denied, didn't it?

How would that make it South America's largest arport? Sao Paulo-Guarulhos already handled 20.4 million passengers in 2008.

Actually, the planned capacity for the airport is 20 million passengers per year. 16 million was the original plan, but it was discarded. The new terminal configuration will allow for up to 25 million pax per year with a minor extension.

Seems as if Bogota will see the return of flights to Frankfurt, Germany.
Lufthansa is gaining traffic rights for daily flights from Frankfurt to Bogota using A340s (shall start October 28, 2010). Additionally, Avianca applied for three weekly flights BOG-FRA using A332s. Both subject to governmental approval.

It's official.
From October 31 Lufthansa will resume FRA-BOG 5 weekly using A340-600 (Caracas will be downgauged from daily A340-600 to daily A340-300).
Additionally, Acianca applied for slots in FRA. According to FRA's waiting list they already got them for the winter schedule, and intend to use A330-200 on even daily BOG-FRA flights. Don't know if their A330 have the legs for this nonstop-route but it seems so.

As you can see the airport's expansion is going according to schedule. The new terminal should open in late 2011 or early 2012.

It will have 13 additional jetways.

Remember that the airport will have an "h" shape when the expansion finishes. The "x" shape was not chosen.

Great news from the 3rd most active airport in Latin America and the 90th most active of the World.

I would like if the moderators could change the name of this thread to BOG | El Dorado International Airport.

I think it will bring more visitors to this space.

Thanks
