Iraq through the eyes of a Danish grunt..

As some of you know I used to serve in the Danish Army for a number of years and took two tours to Iraq as part of that..

Up until now I haven't shared much of the pics I took as they first of all aren't very urban and secondly the topic of Iraq used to spark debate and arguments so there wasn't much point..

Anyway some time has passed now and it's out of the headlines so I'm gonna give it a go...

The pics are a mix between 2003, 2004 and 2005 and from the southern part of the nation and since I'm under contract it is limited what I can say about events, personel and of course show in the pics.. that said if you have any questions by all means ask and I'll answer as well as I can..

Oh and since I don't have the consent of all of my fellow brothers in arms I have desided to blur some faces and some infomation

The short story is that my function was a machine gunner in the Mechanized infantry and that our primary objective was to keep peace in our AOR and to aid the local authorities..

Anyway enough talk, here's the pics...

those are truly excellent pictures... which we will never see in any newspaper... thanks for posting and really if Iraq didn't have a war then I would be an interesting country to visit... specially with all the history it has.......

Small question... did you actually had any combat interaction? or did you guys had any problem with IEDs?

Not so much, especially not in the beginning, but after Al Sadr's uprising and his militia squaring off with the Brits we did take some and also lost some folks

It's a shame to see what's left from once a great country, a cradle of civilization.

Thanks for posting the pictures good sir. Interesting as I start basic training in January for the British Army.

Just finished reading a book on 3 Para in Afganistan and they had nothing but praise for the Danes fighting alongside them in Helmand.
