Nice photos, looks like a very clean, prosperous and modern place. But yeah, it's weird how there is nobody to be seen anywhere, are they all on the golf course?

I don't know what time of year these photos were taken, but Scottsdale's potent sun certainly shapes social habits, as it does in much of the American desert southwest. In Phoenix/Scottsdale they will have sustained temps over 45C in the summer and it can be quite hot in other seasons as well.

Pictures were taken at 11 Am on a Sunday morning with a beautiful 72 F (20 C) degrees. It is true, people do not walk a whole lot in Arizona. Everything is so scattered around that driving a car is the most common means of going from one place to another. You can drive mile after mile of beautiful landscaped streets and you will see nobody walking.

Many years ago there was a catchy song saying: "Nobody walks in L.A.". Well, in Arizona they have taken the whole concept a notch higher.

There's some impressive architecture in there! But yeah, not the lifestyle for me.

Don't want to sound offensive, but it looks like a lifeless theme park. Some buildings are nice though, other look like the hotels you get in Disneyworld...

Nice looking new area! Looks very similar to the new neighborhoods in Orange County, or Temecula, or Rancho Cucamonga, or other "upscale" suburbs... The lifestyle and weather is probably similar too (except for the coastal OC), super-hot summers and nice cool winters.
And, yes, Seattlelife, you probably would have a hard time surviving the 110F heat after the cool, rainy Seattle...
BTW, the answer to why aren't there any pedestrians is simple: summer heat! Yes, even in winter. Lifestyle is not something that you could easily change every season. And the summertime there is extremely, uhm, pedestrian-unfriendly...

I never understood people who like to vacation in summer in places like these. Why people from OC go for a weekend in SUMMER to Palm Springs to play golf? 100F is not enough? Gotta have the complete 120F...

in the houses. Many Americans prefer their own houses, as opposed to some cramped tower. And I don't blame them in a beauitful city like Scottsdale.

Actually having lived in Scottsdale for almost 2 years (had to move because of the heat) I would say it is nothing like the IE as far as weather. It is much hotter in Scottsdale but more humid in the IE. And despite very warm summer days in the IE it can also experience June Gloom and only be in the 70's at times which is not so in Scottsdale. Scottsdale is much more similar to Palm Springs in look, vegetation, topography and weather.

Looks like a well urban planned city to me. Nice pictures, are the average inhabitants of Scottsdale really that rich?

Scottsdale is part of a conglomerate of cities that surround Phoenix. Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are the wealthiest communities of the area. But Paradise Valley is kind of tiny with no morethan 13,000 people. Scottsdale packs 250,000 people and is a full city.
