Not really, people live in their cars as that's where they seem to be spending most of their time getting anywhere. Also, the fact that Americans prefer their own oversized McMansions has led to one of the worst global economic downturns in history. That being said, people in Scottsdale can seemingly afford their lifestyle and so should they in this attractive part of the desert.

Well, there might be a lonely pedestrian every now and then

Great photos, although I agree with some of the other comments regarding a change in lifestyle and climate. Personally, I could never deal with the heat. Case in point, from 1999-2002 I tried living in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) and well, that didn't work out very well!

Where exactly is Scottsdale in Arizona? Near Phoenix or Glendale?

True, Phoenix metro has pretty much the lowest population density among the major US cities. You can't really walk anywhere because its so spread out; and who would want to when its so hot. Phoenix has built a light rail though... and Scottsdale has a high foreclosure rate; many of those people can't afford their McMansions

Regarding the heat is quite bearable as everything is prepared for it. I mean cars, houses, offices and shops have air aconditioning. Also at night and early morning the temperature are lower. Many people moving from the snow belt areas say that they like better the heat than the snow...

Even though Scottsdale has been called 'the Beverly Hills of the desert' it just seems a bit too much like something out of Stepford Wives for my liking. Not saying that it isn't a beautiful city because it is. But I personally couldn't live there. I like a bit of grit and authenticity.

Btw..Scottsdale is one of 6 'downtown' areas in the Phoenix area (Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, Scottsdale, Glendale).

I don't like the architecure scenery , it's all made of gross kitsch fake boxes , architects must not have much taste over there , I wouldn't live there , I save only the "buildings by the lake".

I think that is hard to judge a city through a few pictures. All in all the quality of life of Scottsdale is quite good
