Just to give some idea about Bogota's Transmilenio BRT system:

And its initial prototype in Curitiba, Brazil:

If there were a metro system to be constructed in Bogota, it would complement the already-extensive TransMilenio BRT System.

I think those are good news. First was an study of passenger demand, that shows where the metro line will pass. Now this contract will look closely at these places and will do soil or "ground" studies, landscaping, design, etc. to at the end of these studies, it can start the work of engineering.

Well, that's excellent news.

Colombia borders 5 countries. Each of Brazil, Peru and Venezuela has a metro in its capital city, while Panama and Ecuador are currently building metros in their capital cities. So it's time Bogota got onboard as well.

Montevideo should join this club. Studies for metro there are at least as old as the Bogota ones.

Kind regards

Along Carrera 9 north of Calle 100, will the line run underground or at grade along the existing railway right-of-way? If so, why not extend it all the way to Calle 170, if it's running at grade, with a right of way already existing, it wouldn't be very expensive.

^ Along Carrera 9 will remain underground , including the railway line over the Metro layout.

The reason for this is that the railway has awarded a light rail project that would connect small municipalities that are in the metropolitan area, so Metro can't run over this lane.

Instead the subway, ended its journey just a few kilometers north of 100 Street (About 3 km North on the 127 Street) and is expected to turn to the West side of the city, to another location, that in my personal opinion is better because most people needs it.

Long time ago, it was project to 170th Street , but with the amount of studies and projects (Transmilenio, Train Tram, SITP, etc.) Loses this idea increasingly harder.

--------------

Some interesting facts about the project :

Total lenght : 26.5 km

Stations in Total: 28
Simple Stations 19
BRT stations inegration: 7
Special stations (headers ): 2
Approximate dimensions of the stations : 200m long x 26m wide

100% Underground (Suddenly some small trail sections are zeroed), Electric Traction (?), Average depth between 20-25 meters and 40 trains with 7 wagons (?) With capacity between 1600-1800 passengers.
