Exactly. Plus this is something that was planned and agreed upon by both religious communities several years ago and not a reactionary decision.

Good point...but like many projects in the area, the delay could have caused by anything.

The cross will be the very last thing they will install on the campanile, becuz it will be prefabricated, then fixed on top. No need to get it on site before they're done with all the finishing work.

You're right about it being top out (well sort of). It still needs the small dome (barely visible from that angle), and the cross of course.

Actually what I found "confusing" was that it looks "short" compared to the minarets of MAA, which are 72 meters high. The campanile was claiming a 65 meters height, and to clarify things (for me too), I tried to reproduce the picture that I took yesterday, using Google Earth and some of my models, and here's what I've got:

Note that in this reconstruction, I've made the net height of the campanile 65 meters. the cross will add more height, and my guess is it will be 6 to 9 meters tall (2 to 3 stories). With the addition of the cross, the campanile will get taller than the MAA minarets, and it's a common thing to state the height of the project without the so called "accessories" (Which in this case, the cross, which also is the whole idea and the most important thing in that tower!!!).

Well, to put things slightly into perspective.. not sure if you've noticed.. But look at the minarets of the mosque itself... All part of the same complex.. And yet the minarets behind are noticeably shorter than the ones in front... this distance factor has a big impact on perceived height i guess... So its only natural the campanile will look so short..
