Those big pompuous buildings don't do it for me. There is no soul and you can also debate the asthetics. A pure building for example like this romanesque churche makes my heart beat faster.

hey Elvenking, this last year I went to Warsawa, and I'm agree with you, it's very beautyful, I would say "a bit British", It's like any buildings in London, for example It remember me a bit the Lloyds Bank of London, but this is taller, of course.

I believe in Spain the new Madrid Arena, not building by building, but as a set of buildings is very beatiful.

if we're talking cathedrals, then my prize would have to go to Lincoln:

and it used to be taller:

I have to say I loved almost all the old buildings posted so far.... and very few of the new ones.

I agree with Ribarca that a building with a heart and soul beats any of those monstrously huge castles, palaces and towers.
And why is it that everbody always feels the need to post random buildings from their own town/country, no matter what the thread title is?

One of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen is the Sucevita monastery in Romania, which has frescoes from top to bottom both in and outside and is located in an isolated part of the country, amidst lush mountains and little towns:

That looks disgustingly kitschy. Don't you have any taste?

Read the thread title, people! I know there are different objections of beauty, but this is, well...

Ryugyong Hotel and the Petronas Towers are the only modern skyscrapers that are beautiful.
